how do i fix my indesit w113 washing machine?

my indesit w113 starts the wash cycle and doesn't advance onto the rinse or spin cycle. The dial does not rotate and the light does not flash. what is the problem?

Generally the timer is faulty esp if it does not rotate to the next cycle. Expensive repair.
