PLUG SOCKET SWITCH WON'T TURN OFF?

HI WE HAVE 2 PLUG SOCKETS ON A DOUBLE SOCKET WHERE THE ON/OFF SWITCH WON'T SWITCH OFF N THE ONLY WAY TO TURN APPLIANCE OFF IS TO UNPLUG FROM SOCKET
JANE, September 2008
Having the same problem, replaced the socket unit with a new one, still remains switched on regardless, yet , plug in an appliance, a drill, or whatever, no power comes from the socket.

I changed the socket unit, because the original. which was fitted some years ago by a so called "qualified " guy, had been doing the same, but I only discovered this, when I wanted
To switch it off?? I'm a bit baffled. anyone with any ideas, would be glad to hear from you,,,Stumped!!

Just replace the socket with a new one remember to switch the power off first at the consumer unit(fuse box). green/yellow together to earth, black wires together to neutral and red together to live

TO RICHARD BUXTON

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP WITH BROKEN SOCKET MUCH APPRECIATED.

Leave it as it is -or- fit a new socket - you will need:- a new socket and a screwdriver and remember to turn the power off at your fuse box / consumer unit.

If in UK B&Q sell double socket with no switches for about £4 and about £7 for a double socket with switches.

Alternatively call an electrician for a slightly higher cost.
