Service ?? Johnson & starley J25-32 modairflow system?

Just had the thermocouple replaced & the guy said system needs a service so I will be arranging one this week. BUT... I had the system serviced a couple of years ago when we moved here and the missus said she could'nt see clearly but she thinks all the service guy did was to bring a small hoover and take some panels off & clean the system. Is using the word "Service" just a another word for "cleaning" or should the guy have changed or checked stuff as in when you get your car serviced you get the oil / filters etc changed. If it entails just removing panels & hoovering the gunk out can I do a DIY job ? If your reading this YAS I'll take your advice.
Thanks in advance.

If the engineer does not check the following on a warm air unit, then the service is not being carried out as it should, which should be annually.also purchase a carbon monoxide detector(looks like a smoke alarm).
burner pressure, flue flow test(smoke pellet),in the loft making sure flue is connected to ridge, spillage test, ventillation(is correct)(if any at all),burner to be cleaned, injector to be checked(and cleaned),filter to be cleaned, fan to be checked and cleaned, overall operation of unit.Do not let a year go by without having your unit serviced and checked it could be fatal.Hope this helps.

Thanks Yas. I think the service is beyond me. I'll get the repair guy to do the service. The company I am using is a reputable company and I did ask if the repair guy was corgi registered ( Which he is ) I will make sure I ask if he is registered for the warm air element when I ring to arrange the service. I think thats covered all my problems so thanks again Yas you've been a great help.

Dear Jay
You have a open flue appliance should be checked once a year
Service does entail strip down of appliance, clean pilot /main burner remove clean fan
Gas rate check . Check heat exchanger (not split)
Check flue and termination Smoke test flow and for spillage plus return air path , ventilation, covers most of it Further detail in makers manual
As i said b4 make sure they are registered for the warm air element
