Danfoss RX1 not responding?

I have a Danfoss TP5000RF wireless programmer and a Danfoss RX1 receiver unit. For some reason the heating has been going on and off at strange intervals and now will not come on at all. I do, however, have hot water on demand. The programmer shows the flame on the screen meaning that the heating should be on but nothing happens. I have tried reseting both units and recommissioning but to no avail. None of the lights on the RX1 unit light up at all. Is the problem with RX1? Do I need a new unit? Thought I should ask before a splash the cash. I hope someone can help, the wife is nagging because its getting cold

Change the RF filter capacitor in the RX1s receiver (it's the large square plastic X2 cap - can't miss it). Twice it's happened to me and this was the cause of the failure in both cases. Capacitors are pennies to replace so worth a try.

I'm having trouble with my Danfoss ret b, after reading this I'm going to change it! And not Danfoss.

We had a RET B + RF with RX1 receiver installed last winter because where the old thermostat was wasn't the coldest room.
It worked fine last winter but now it just goes crazy. First it started with the heating not coming on even so the flame on the thermostat showed. I went through the press learn button and both buttons on RX1 about 4 times last week. Even replaced the batteries just in case.
Then I also noticed the thermostat says it's hot enough but the RX1 doesn't respond and the red light stays on and the central heating runs and runs and I have to press the CH1 button to switch it off.
The yesterday it wouldn't switch off pressing the CH1 button so I had to switch off the boiler completely.
I really don't recommend this product.

My RX1 stopped receiving from the wireless stat. Tried holding the PROG and CH1 button, nothing happens. Bought a new one, can't get that to pair either. Sounds like these units extremely temperamental. I'm sending the new rx1 back and getting a Honeywell.

We have had two RX1 s , one for hot water and one for heating since 2007 with no problems, so not too bad.

Today the one for the heating stopped switching the relay (it was receiving OK).

Ordered a new RX1 from Plumb Nation, a lot cheaper than Screwfix who want to include the transmitter which is still OK as it operates the one for the hot water.

Was tempted by Ebay sellers but decided it was too risky.

I've had a lot of trouble with this little nuisance, but it seems I have found a technique! Turn the thermostat knob up to full and remove the face of it, to reveal the learn button. Press this, then press and hold the CH1 button on the receiver for 10/15 secs, and then whilst still holding the CH1 button, press the PROG button and hold for around 3/5 secs. The green light next to the PROG button should flash green every few seconds. Replace the thermostat dial and turn it up and down to check it's kicking the boiler on and off. This seems to be working for me...... At the moment! Good luck and let me know how you get on

I have the same problem as the original poster with an RX-1 installed two days ago. Yesterday it was working fine, today hot water only, no heating. Tried the recommissioning option but got nothing. Boiler says the thermostat is not calling for heat, thermostat says it is, the RX-1 has no lights and appears to be as dead as the proverbial.

I have the RX1 and the TP7000 wireless thermostat. The heating turns on but will not turn off. have to do that manually. I have just replaced the TP7000 unit because most of the buttons seized up and I could not alter programme times. But it hasn't solved the problem about not turning off the heating. Could the RX1 be faulty too?

when i set the timer should the prog light be lit on the rx1 unit

I have just had this installed to control hot water temp. When it is working correctly should the CH1 light be red?

Same with me. On my 3rd RX1 in 2 years!!! I've decided to go with another manufacturer.

We have this quite often. Once you have finished thne commissioning process (press both buttons on the RX1 and hold for 15 sec + 3 sec for my thermostat) you need to do one more thing that I do not have written down, but simply press ch1 and the light above should come on and the boiler fire.

i hadthe same problem as you guys, i am an electronic engineer by trade. i managed to borrow a working unit from a supportive plumbing outlet in stoke. anyway to cut a long story short, i removed the pic ic, this is the surface mount chip that has the operation code / firm ware init, and swopped it with the working unit - and guess what BOTH units then worked. it looks to me like the pic code has got its knickers in a twist and locks up. do danfross know about this, or are we the only ones that have had this problem????

i've fitted about 10 of these in the last three months.....i've had to bring back at least 5 of the RX1's and have them replaced for free. Today another one failed to work upon installation. Needless to say thats it for me with the danfoss crowd. Costing me alot of time and of course time is money!!!!!!

Went to my mums house tonight, same problem,no green light when trying to set up rx1. 18 months old.Not very impressed.

Same here. CH1 light sporadically goes out requiring a press to reactivate. No green light when attempting to reprogram. This happened around three months after installation. Avoid RX1 at all costs! Total rubbish.

I too have this problem. The real pain is that i am on my second receiver in the space of 2 1/2 years.

Andy, December 2008
yes, i have the very same problem, im a plumber and fitted quite a few of these units and had no problems else where, but in my own home!!!, i have the same problem where i have to turn it on and manually with the ch button, but i defeats the whole point of having a seven day programmer with muti start functions. i wont be fitting anymore and will tell future customers not to bother with danfoss.

me, November 2008
I have exactly the same problem and have e-mailed danfoss and they came back with...change the batteries in the programmer (which I did first) then go through all the usual stuff that you do before e-mailing someone i.e. set the programmer to emit the signal for 3 minutes then press the prog and CH1 buttons until the green light comes on after 3 seconds (in my dreams). If all this fails replace the RX1 unit

To get the heating on I pressed the CH1 button...This puts the pump on permanently and then the temperature is regulated by the temp setting on the boiler (this will get you out of hot water with 'er indoors) but remeber to press the CH1 button before you go to bed as you will get cooked through the night.

Bottom Line.......looks like I'll have to part with my hard earned cash for a new RX1 and so will you
