my dyson cuts out after a few minutes - probably overheating. ?

I suspect dust is clogging up somewhere I cannot access.

If your filter is clean and you cannot find any obstructions, then the motor is most likely the cause of the problem. Dyson normally uses a panasonic motor that is high quality and long lasting. If they run short on those, they will use a YDK motor that doesn't seem to hold up as well.

Hi Beverley,

Have a look at this: http://www.sparesaver.com/help-and-support/dyson-section/dyson-technical-advice-450/ - it should help you. I had the same problem, and managed to resolve it.
