Why do my halogen bulbs keeping tripping main fuse?

I have nine 50w halogen ceiling lights in kitchen powered by a 500w transformer. When switched on they remain on for as long as you want but once you switch them off the main fuse trips for all ground floor lights when you switch them on again even if it is the next day. This is a new transformer.

Who installed them if it was yourself then get a qualified electrician to check it over as you may have done something wrong. As wiring faults are the usual cause of the circuit to trip.
