plastering?

have taken old tiles off the wall in bathroom,which has taken the suface of the plaster of and left a powdery residue of the backing plaster,does anyone know how to seal the wall or do i have to strip it back to bare brick

plastering a wall consists of
1st browning this levels the wall and
2nd finishing which is basically a hardened finish.
sounds like you have taken the hardened finish off
simply use finishing plaster to smooth it over.
