Bulb blowing on new 3 bulb light?

Hi
I bought a new 3 bulb (E14 type) ceiling light. When I turn on the wall light switch it blows the bulb. It's alway's the same socket. If I screw the bulb in when the light is already switched on it doen't blow. I had to use choc blocks when fitting as the wiring coming out of the celing cables would not fit into the one's on the light. I did not use insulation tape to cover the blocks so could this be the problem? Any other ideas? Thanks.

I've bought some more bulbs and for some reason all is fine. No idea why really as i had previously tried several bulbs.

Thanks Rob for you answer.

The other idi*t who said he has an idea - get an electrician in - you are a je*k. Apart from the fact that the other lights I have installed over the years, just by chance, haven't managed to burn my house down this forum is for advice not for pr*t's like you.

If it were the blocks the other bulbs would blow. Are the bulbs the correct voltage? if so remove the fitting and check the wiring inside it.

I have an idea. Get an electrician before you burn the house down as you obviously don't have a clue.
