Worcestor 28cdi fan replacement?

Hi,

My 28cdi boiler stopped working, and it turns out the cause was a sticking fan. It's been noisy for a while, making a similar noise to our washing machine, which I know for a fact is on it's last legs due to worn bearings.

I've been quoted approx £250 to supply and fit the fan - but as far as I can see the part costs £70-£80 inc VAT and delivery, and removing and fitting is straightforward. The fan assembly is mounted with three screws, plus the airhose and power connectors. Am I missing something?

Any advice appreciated. Many thanks.

that price is a bit hefty british gas would charge you £168 which is guaranteed for 12 months. if you remove the case on the boiler and you have an accident you are liable to prosecustion as you can not confirm correct working gas pressures whether or not the flueing and ventilation are correct and also safety devices and case seals are sealed and operating correctly. the job is relatively easy but i cannot recommend doing this job yourself no more than i can recommend carrying out an MOT on your car. your not qualified to carry out any of the above unless you are corgi registered. this applies to anyone wishing to work on there own boiler just because they think slapping a bit of paint on a wall and put a few screws
in makes you a builder - it doesnt get the right people for the job. £168 british gas or less with a reasonable independent fitter

Look at http://www.keeptheheaton.com/acatalog/Worcester_Bosch_Spares.html
Their prices and service are excellent.

First of all, legally you are supposed to be Corgi registered. If you feel competent to go ahead - there is nothing else to add to your list. Take care to ensure that the differential pressure valve hoses (red & white) and the 2 speed fan (white, black & orange) wires are connected the correct way round. Watch out when pulling the fan motor connectors off as the whole terminal(s) is prone to coming out.
Ensure combustion chamber cover is properly fitted. Switch on and all should be OK.
