how to get the big numbers off the screen?

The remote does not work at all , with new batteries added.
It stays on channel 3 and the big number stays there we cannot take it out. What can be done about this.It is an Emerson Model number tc4523/tc4352 part number 70-2110.

Thanks Doughface1. My kids are happy now that the numbers are gone

Press SET one time
Wait few seconds, the number will move half way up
Wait few seconds, the number will move to the right
Wait few seconds, the number is gone

If you press SET again, the number will reappear.

U do NOT need the original remote control device to solve this problem!
What happens is that in the event you leave the tv unplugged for any considerable length of time,is that the capacitor that stores the memory runs out of juice.
This is factory default setting.
All you have to do to eliminate this issue is to simply depress the channel up and down AND the power buttoms simultaneously and it will stop the channels from remaining on the screen,
the only problem is hitting all three at the same time, which as long as you have two hands you should be able to master.
Good luck, and glad to have been of help.
I have the same exact set,and although it is old,it works better than some new ones I have seen.

Dont' know if this is true. I have the same tv also with no remote and this is what I found

Emerson TC4352 - This remote includes the channel set button used to remove the channel number from the middle of the screen. This seems to be a big problem with many Emerson TV's. The only way to correct this problem is to use this original remote.
