Having the same issue with our 40" TV. I thought it was just the TV getting old so we didn't do anything about it. Tried calling Samsung and they don't know anything about faulty capacitors. Anyone had this fixed recently FOC?

I was told to contact a local TV shop.

John, May 2015
I had the problem in 2010 after my tv was 4 years old. I did not see this site until now and I had to pay another company to get it fixed. I think samsung should refund my repair costs as it was their fault.

Michael, October 2014
They fixed two tv's with the same issue today at my mother house. Thanks.....for the info worked like a charm and they came to the house to fix it could not ask for more.

Thank you everyone for your help!!! I have a LE40R87BD and just phoned Samsung today on 01932 454358 (selected the option for TV) and they have advised me that someone will contact me in the next 48hrs. Two hours later, (on a Saturday!) I was called by the repair company. I advised them that I had already had a look at the Capacitors and two were blown. They are coming on Tuesday to just replace the whole board. Over the moon as the Power Supply concerns will also be addressed! I could not have done this without all your help in posting your comments. If you want to check your own capacitor, if they are blown, then you will notice that the top of them is slightly bowed out when compared to the others. They should be very flat.

Dave, January 2013
thanx so much!
I had the same problem!
repared it myself using a couple of old capacitors.2 10v 1000uF and 2 860 uf 25 volt,which were bubbeled up!?Replaced them for 2 16 v 1000uf and 1 2200 uf 63v from a philips tv of 1976 ;).

Just phoned Samsung have a 32" LCD of there's with the switching on problem, now it refuses to turn on, promplty told by Samsung here's the service centre number there isn't a known fault. The repair centre wants £60 for a inspection and report. Strange when everybody else is saying such good things. Last Samsung bit of kit coming in this house.

There is a quick fix on this that Samsung is paying for the repairs whether 1 month old or 4 years old. Thought I would send this since there are a lot of posts on this issue.

Called Samsung and they took care of the issue (so far) I have a Model LN-T5271F (52" LCD) purchased 1/12/08. It's well out of warranty, but I guess the capacitor issue I've been reading about is covered under a limited warranty/settlement.

Samsung just lost the lawsuit for the 10V rated capacitors they put on 12V power-board. The capacitors ramp up the current to turn on the TV, and rated too low, eventually fail. It's for certain models.

Go to
http://www.samsung.com/us/capacitorsettlement/

or 888-899-7602

You may be able to get the TV repaired for free.

The clicking is the retry on the power board after it fails. It will continually try to turn on, but the capacitors have trouble supplying the required voltage. To check yourself, remove the back, you'll see bad capacitor tops bowed upward, maybe some black tar leaking also. They'll be labeled 10V on a 12V rated board.

A proposed Settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving certain Samsung televisions. In cooperation with the District Court of Oklahoma County, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is offering a settlement for certain Samsung-branded televisions manufactured prior to December 31, 2008. You may be entitled to receive the benefits of this proposed Class Action Settlement if you purchased, acquired or otherwise owned any of the following Samsung-branded televisions, and the television is experiencing or has experienced the "Covered TV Symptom(s)" as described in the proposed Settlement. The class action lawsuit alleges a defect that may cause the television to experience symptoms such as not turning on, experiencing a delay in turning on, making a clicking sound, cycling on and off, or other similar problems. Samsung denies the allegations in the lawsuit, but has agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the costs and uncertainty of continued litigation.

As others have said, a huge thank you to everyone who has reported this issue here! I was on the cusp of taking my TV to the local repair shop, when I very fortunately stumbled across this forum - as a result, I have saved myself a substantial sum!

I have a Samsung 40" LCD L340A558P3FXXU, and several months ago, the TV was taking several minutes to switch on. This problem lasted for about four to six weeks, and then it seemed to sort itself out, and would turn on instantly, so I forgot about it.

Unfortunately, on 26/8/12, after about eight weeks of working fine, the TV decided not to turn on at all. I left it on for a couple of hours, but nothing happened. The red light on the front of the TV just flashed intermittently, and there was a regular high-pitched sound coming from the back of the TV, as it were continually trying to power up. Others have reported a "clicking" sound, but I couldn't really notice this.

After very luckily finding this site on Friday 31st August, I contacted Samsung that day at 9am on 01932 454358. I simply explained that the TV would not switch on, and that the red light on the front flashed intermittently. I said that I believed that this was the infamous capacitor problem, and that I understood that it was a known defect. I was asked for my model number and serial number. I was never asked how old the TV was, although presumably they can tell this from the serial number. I was asked whether I had left the power off for 24 hours before trying again, which I had actually done for 48 hours. Finally, I was asked whether there was a clicking sound when the TV was trying to turn on; not wanting to be dismissed on a technicality, I said that there was (there was certainly some sound!). I was told that an engineer would call me on the same day (31/8/12), and that if the fault was due to the capacitors, then it would be free of charge; if the fault was due to something else, then I would be quoted a repair cost, but I would be under no obligation to incur this.

At 11am, I was phoned by DK Audio Visual Services, who just wanted to clarify the problem and confirm my address.

At 4pm, DK Audio Visual Services called me to say that they could have an engineer visit me between 1pm and 3pm on Tuesday 4th September, which I accepted.

The engineer called on me early today, just a couple of hours ago. Surprise, surprise - two of my capacitors had "bubbled up", so he replaced them. The repair took all of 20 minutes.

The engineer was great, and I had a good chat with him to find out as much as I could about the problem. He said that it is extremely common, and affects both Samsung and LG LCD TVs, but that the newer models now have capacitors which are a bit more robust (12v instead of 10v, I believe).

The engineer said that Samsung had had no choice but to admit that there was a known defect, as the capacitor problems were coming up so frequently. Interestingly, he also said that if the other, currently working capacitors - which he had not replaced - conked out in the future, Samsung would be obliged to replace them free of charge. This contradicts other information I've read, which said that customers are only entitled to this repair free of charge once. I would advise anyone who has already had this repair done, whose TV fails to turn on again, to contact Samsung, as it's highly likely that the other capacitors have been damaged too.

As I said, I was very close to taking this to the local repair shop, who had quoted me a £25 inspection fee, which would be deducted from the total cost of the repair. They had said that they deal with this problem all the time. I don't know how much they would have charged, by my good engineer friend told me that he had heard of people being charged £150 for this simple repair.

So, a pretty worthwhile phone call to Samsung, all in all!

Eoin McLove, September 2012
Thanks to all on this site. I called Samsung who asked for the model and serial numbers of the tv. They confirmed that it was on their list. I got a call from a local approved Samsung engineer that day. They called the next day and repaired the fault in 30 minutes (al free). Works perfect now. Well done to Samsung as my tv is almost 5 years old, but then again, should Samsung have recalled these models as many people will have paid for a repair not knowing it could be f.o.c.

Stuart, August 2012
Hi thanks to all posting on this site, my samsung did the whole clicking thing then would not turn on, found this site, called samsung and 2 guys collected tv and fixed all free of charge Thanks

Richard Newman, July 2012
so glad i found this site.was looking for a way to fix the tv clicking on and off.my model is the LE40r74BD,purchased way back in 2006 and since day one has clicked on and off. was told numerous reasons why, power cable, taxi interference!to hot, to cold the list goes on.i've just rang samsung and an engineer will be calling back to arrange a visit and inspection FOC.i will post the outcome of the visit.

catnic, June 2012
Thanks for all your posts.
My 5-year old LE32R8 TV started doing the same, so after reading your comments I called the Samsung helpcentre and they did say that it could be the capacitor, so I'll have a technician coming over to check if it is (and repair if yes), free of charge, so it does seem to be a normal issue.

By the way, could this have a different impact whether the tv is connected to the skybox or a dvd player?
Because my issues started 2 days ago with the sky box, and with that the image just flickers on for a microsecond then disappears, then back again, but it was ok with the dvd, which I watched for about 4 hours yesterday, still ok. Then today the tv started to turn itself off completely even with the dvd, but if I click things on the remote it comes back up for about 2 minutes, then back off again, and so on...
(I even changed the power cable to check if that was the reason at forst)

My Samsung LE40A656 developed the same symptoms as many others ie kept trying to start but didn't, it was cycling through umpteen times and eventually would start after about 25 minutes! Although it was out of warranty, being about 3 years old, I contacted Samsung customer services by phone (don't even try the e mail link as I am still waiting for a reply 6 weeks afterwards) and a service agent called me back within the hour to arrange a visit. This took a week to arrange due to my work patterns but the repair was completed in less than 30 minutes by very polite lads from Martin Dawes, the local agent. The whole motherboard was replaced and two or mopre of the capacitors had blown. Total cost to me= £gratis.

Dave Busby, Rotherham, June 2012
Ref my earlier post about my LE46B530P7W TV. It ended up being the power unit that was the cause. Not the capacitors.

The part and labour costs ended up at £163 from a Samsung approved repair centre in Derby.

This will be my last Samsung of any kind!!!

My Samsung developed this fault last week. Phoned samsung who are sending an engineer out to replace the capacitors free of charge Monday or Tuesday. Result!!

David Yorkshire, April 2012
Contact Samsung - my TV had same symptoms and I read on this forum to ring Samsung. My tv was 4 years old - they came out within 2 days and fixed it free of charge - its a common fault. Many thanks to all who have pitched in on this forum as it saved me a repair bill

Mark B, April 2012
with regard to switching off after a few minutes, check you menu settings. go to TV Time menu, and turn off the auto timer on/off setting, I have to do this each time I switch it on, but once it has been turned off at this setting, the TV will stay on without switching off on its own.

Dino D, March 2012
I have a LCD HDTV model LE46B530P7W that is losing its image within 60 minutes and the sound remains. Putting the TV into standby and turning it back on makes the picture return for less than 5 minutes. Leaving the TV on stand by overnight seems to let the TV stay on for another 60 minutes or less the next day, it's as though the TV needs a 'charge' so clearly a capacitor issue like many issues that have been posted previously.

I contacted Samsung on the phone. If you have a model number starting LExxB like me (where xx is the size of TV i.e. 46 is 46" like mine) then i'm afraid you're out of luck with regards to getting your TV fixed FOC like many other people have been successful with here. Any capacitor issues with models LExxA i.e. LE30A or older is considered widespread and so you will receive the good will gesture of having your TV repair for free if it is this common fault. Anything LExxB or later isn't considered a widespread issue and so no FOC repair. From what i can see, there are a number of LExxB issues on here and so i thing Samsung may need to revisit their policy on this.

More than £600 for a TV which i do love, but it should not have a fault like this in under 2 years surely.

Here is the response i got from Samsung:

"Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.

I am sorry to hear your TV has developed this issue.

Unfortunately free of charge repairs are only offered in rare circumstances - the cases of 3+ year old TVs being repaired for free you are referring to, are probably in regards to a line of TVs (specifically certain R, M and early A series models) which were discovered to have a manufacturing defect with the capacitors, which we do offer a free of charge inspection and repair for.

It is true that there are no known faults with your model of television, and since the unit is two years old, the warranty has expired so you must independently contact one of our repair centres in regards to repairing the unit."

Hi All,

After my Samsung LE40R87BDX would not power on with just clicking I replaced the Capacitors and the EEPROM. Now the clicking has stopped and the tv powers on, but I get no backlight or picture, just sound. If you hold a torch to the screen you can see fuzzyness, but no illumination. I have been into the service menu and reset all configuration, but no difference. Any ideas, would be more than welcome!

Hi all, thanks for the info, have a 40" samsung and had same proplems. Phoned samsung on the number quoted in these replys. Told them problem and that tv was over 4 years old. Said they would get an engineer to contact me in next 3 days (I phoned Friday evening)
I got a call from local repair on tue and has it fixed on wed afternoon. All FOC.
Samsung said it would all be FOC as long as it was the caps. It was but also the EPROM was screwed and he had to upload some data then it all worked fine.
Could not fauld samsung UK at all great people on phone and very ubderstanding, only wanted to know model, ser number when i bought it and from where. No reciept asked for but there was a pause afyrt i gave her the details, they may have an online database of what ser numbers where sold where.#If yours is playing up, give them a call.

Colin Rowe, January 2012
Further update, I changed the faulty Capacitors, powered up and TV came on in 5 seconds and clicking had stopped. However, the TV decided to keep switching itself off every 30 seconds, hmm...I thought I must have missed something, thankfully, a little more research led me to the timer settings for the TV. There is a time and alarm setting feature to allow the TV to come on and off at certain times. These need to be disabled otherwise TV will shut down or come on at the designated intervals. I reset these to disabled and TV now works perfectly well. total repair cost me around £4.00, and the repair itself took me around 20 minutes.

Dino D, January 2012
My TV is about 4 years old, I have had the clicking start up problem for some time, I have now removed the rear cover and found that 3 or 4 of the capacitors on the PSU (1000uf 10v 105C) have popped their tops, you can get these from RS Components around 50p to 60p each, the repair looks quite easy to do if you are ok in having a go yourself. The capacitors only have a finite life between 1000 & 2000 hours hence they pop eventually.

Dino D, January 2012
take the back off and check the capiters if there bulged or leaking they will need to be replaced click on the link below

Hi

I have just had my 3 year old plus Samsung LE32A456C2DXXU fixed for free. This was arranged through Samsung who contacted my local TV repair people and asked them to contact me to arrange an appointment.

Just to confirm I went through the stages confirming that the TV was plugged in but mentioned the issue and that it was on the internet. I was then redirected to my local repair people who stated that there would be a charge therefore I emailed Samsung and was asked to contact them by phone and on doing so they arranged the free visit.

My TV also suffered the same issue that has been reported to have occured on some of the other models. The engineer took the back off the TV and soldered the power supply joints on the PCB as these had cracked, he also removed the board and retightened the PCB back inplace. The TV seems to be working at the moment. Time will tell.

Dave, December 2011
Just had my 4year old Samsung T.V repaired FOC! Thanks to everyone on here and of course Samsung

Vote Samsung, December 2011
damn. ive just authorised repair on my 40" lcd at a cost of £126.00.. the capacitors had blown and also blew the power circuit.. i didn't realise this was here until the guy repairing my tv told me it was a common fault and he repairs hundreds of them. guess i'm out of pocket then.....

paul, December 2011
I was checking my consumer rights (Consumer Goods act 1979 - up to 6 years to claim compensation from the retailer, not the manufacturer, for a fault!!) however, I stumbled upon this site which sounds less hassle! I'm going to call Samsung on the 0845 number and will let you know the outcome. Don't fancy the soldering option! My SAM LE40R88BD LCD is clicking on and off, the standby light flashes and won't switch on, and it's 2.11 years new! After reading all this I’m really DISSAPOINTED in SAMSUNG, I thought it was a brand I could trust and didn’t mind paying the extra £££’s – lost faith now!

AndreaG, December 2011
Again I contacted samsung uk on 08457267864. Call centre staff very helpful. Explained full problem to them, TV clicking but refusing to power up. All leads appear normal etc. And thay have arranged for an engineer to inspect tv FOC, and if manufacturer fault repair FOC.

Stavros, November 2011
just had the same problem with my LE40656 Model.
Samsung are sending an engineer foc, and foc repair if it is capacitors.

Greta thread this, saved me hassle and cash.

Thanks all

Had tv repaired for this fault back in june(see comments) but not long after started to get 3 lines across screen distorting picture. this lasts about 5 mins but is getting more frequent. anybody else getting this ? or got info how to fix?

stokieden, October 2011
Model: LE40A656.
I saw further down in the trail a messgae from a person with the same model as myself who said they would have to pay for the fault themself as it wasn't one of the 'known' models.
I have just phoned Samsung and they have said if it is a manufacture fault they would pay for it FoC however I would have to pay the initial call out fee of £50 which would be refunded if the fault was found to be the capacitors.
I am unsure as to whether I should phone an engineer out now as I don't want to be lumped with the bill! As the TV is only 3 yrs old, would I be better going to Comet and trying to get it fixed through them?

P, September 2011
Thanks for this forum i have same fault phoned samsung said was common fault and will fix it free of charge :-)

Fix Samsung LE40M86BD power on clicking problem when living overseas:

Can I also offer more "Samsung now being helpful" advise. Long story but I own an LE40M86BD purchased in UK but I now live in Australia. Everyone happy to repair for free (Samsung UK and Aus) until they find out the "puchased in UK, live in Aus" bit. Eventually I talked to person in Customer Services UK who offered the following:

1. I contact Samsung Aus, they recommend a local repairer
2. I get the Aus repairer to do the repair and I pay
3. I send invoice to samsungs UK helpdesk email quoting my account reference
4. Samsung UK approve the invoice and send paperwork to my registered UK address, that asks for UK bank details etc
5. Samsung UK then pay invoice value to my UK bank account

At last common sense prevails.

ResultFromDownUnder, August 2011
As a working TV engineer and reading these comments I see no mention of the correct spec. for these capacitors. The most important thing about the ones you use for replacement is that they are of the "Low ESR" (equivalent series resistance) type. Myself I use Matsushita (Panasonic) or Rubycon from Farnell Components but you must check that they are Low ESR types. The use of a standard 105 degree type will cause the new capacitors to overheat and age quickly as per the Samwha branded originals. The problem on Samsungs and now to a lesser extent on LGs is mainly with Samwha branded capacitors.
I must thank Samsung for having given me an increased earning stream over the last couple of years.
Regards,
Chris

Thanks to this site I phoned Samsung on 03307267864 Told them the T.V would click constantly and not turn on. They took my model number and date of purchase (LE40R74DB purchased approx 4 years ago) they instantly said its a capacitor problem and will be investigated FOC and repaired FOC. Definately saved myself the £200 repair bill my local T.V repair shop wanted. thanks again, definately worth ringing Samsung first :)

Same issue with model LE40R88BDX. Bought this TV 4 years ago and if it wasnt for the info displayed below, I would have called out an engineer at my cost. Phoned Samsung this morning, and I will have an engineer visit in 2-3 days. Thanks to all contributors.

i have an 18 month LE40B620R3WQXU that has a power issue (turns itself on and off randomly) samsung have been useless and just kept recommending a firmware or just told me to go back to currys where i bought it. an contracted engineer is coming out tomorrow that will cost me a bit, but he admitted over the phone he has to repair loads of these and seemed to know exactly what i was talking about. never buying samsung again!

luke, July 2011
Fantastic service and thank you for this website. I had exactly the same problem and called the number below. She gave me a ref and advised they would get an egineer out in the next couple of days...no need for me to ask to be put through to customer services. I had a phone call within half an hour and he popped round to fix it. No charge - apparently we had 4 faulty capacitors. Samsung are fantastic, my tv was 4 yrs old model = LE40R73BD

davinder, July 2011
Snap. Same problem as all above. I think my set is actually five years old. Phoned Samsung. I dont think he would have volunteered information about this problem - he tried to get me to pull plug out and try a different socket and moving wire to see if there was a loose cable. As soon as i mentioned other people having the same problem his attitude changed. Took serial/model number and i am now waiting for an engineer to call me back to arrange repair - foc. thanks everybody. great help.

elizabeth, July 2011
Guys thanks for all info,i had the same problem with my samsung, rang them 3 times (make sure u use your power in voice ;) ) had my tv repaired in 15 mins!!!Thanks!!!

Maggie, July 2011
Hi, I had the same problem and just called Samsung UK through the number that was mentioned below, so far so good and they gave me a CASE NUMBER and was told that someone is coming in the next 2 days to look at the TV, and if it is a know issue they will fix it free of charge. This seems to be very good feedback from samsung, it is just now a question of them admitting that the fault is a known issue or not.

They would need your TV MODEL and SERIAL NUMBER.

Sean-Angelo, July 2011
followed advise on here & called samsung. at first they put me in touch with a local firm who quoted £50.00. call out + parts & labour so rang samsung back and told them that i heard this was an "on going fault with this model". they rang back within a hour, engineer came following day & repaired in 20 mins. Well done to everyone on here for the information

stokieden, June 2011
well done samsung my tv would not come on just kept clicking. read the comments on this site and phoned the customer services up, 26hrs later they had repaired my tv FOC. My tv was 4 years old and took the engineers 20mins to fix. My next tv will be a Samsung again.

Phone Samsung ,0845 726 7864 ask after intial conversation about fault, get ref, number ... THEN ask to get customer service and state your case about this on/off switch problem, but be demanding to them ,it is a known problem, they just wont admit it easily. Dont tell them I told you this ,ok --"power to the people"

billyvirgin, June 2011
Samsung in the Netherlands is not aware this is a common problem. And for €223 I can have it fixed. If I go to a local repair shop, it's €70 to 80. Thanks Samsung

Ben, June 2011
Had the same problem (PS42B430P2W) called the number,
they gave me a ref number and phone number for nearest service agent will be calling them in the morning thanks.

steve sargent, June 2011
I have the same problem with a Samsung LE32A456C2D, takes up to 2 hours to switch on initially then switches on and off for 20 mins, after that works fine until the next day, I rang Samsung and they say it isn't a known fault with that model so I had to get a service report at a cost of £42, diagnosed power supply fault so I phoned Samsung back and they refused to help, I either bin it (tempting) or pay £125 for the repair, the power supply part number BN44-00214A only costs £29.77+vat but Samsung will not sell direct to us, I will never buy another Samsung product again

Terry, June 2011
Same clicking delayed on problem with my LA40M8. I bought the LCD in Hong Kong 3 1/2 years ago. The warranty expired after 3 years. Here in HK the customer service department do not acknowledge this as a manufacture default. Will only send a technician to inspect the problem if I agree to their standard $500 house call fee. In addition, they will not sell certified parts to the public. Very bad customer service. I refuse to give Samsung another $ after this experience.

Disappointed in Hong Kong, May 2011
Hi Everyone. I have exactly the same issue Samsung Television LE40R88BD would not switch on just kept clicking! Thought as it was around 4 years old and no extended warranty would be an expensive repair option I was looking at. But after coming across thsi website and calling the Samsung Customer Helpline they are sending out an engineer FOC. They said If its a fualt with Samsung component they will replace FOC. Definately give them a ring first!!!

Jay Con, May 2011
Called Samsung yesterday same non starting problem with the clicking noises..took my details and the model number said they would send out an engineer, they called 10 minutes after I had finished with customer service and they will repair it this thrusday.

RB North East England, May 2011
Hey guys, same here, my Samsung LE40R87BDX wont power on, its 3 years old, so I rang Samsung support on 0845 7267864 and they have said its aknown problem and an engineer will come out to fix FOC!!
Great service!!

phils99, May 2011
Just like to add my thanks to all the people on here and to samsung for their aftersales service, phoned samsung 2 days later four year old tv fixed FOC

Andy, May 2011
Just wanted to add my thanks - I have a Samsung 46" model LE46F86BDX, just over 3 years old, similar problem to most on here. I called Samsung as suggested on here, received a call back within an hour, and arranged a repair for 2 days later (it took longer for the guys to remove all the screws than to perform the actual repair!).

Matt, April 2011
Engineers have been and fixed the TV, hopefully. They said it was a common problem of the screws holding the Power Supply board in place being loose. Sure enough when they took the back panel off the top screw on the PCB was obviously loose, several others were too, meaning that there was a poor contact. They cleaned everything and refitted the Power Supply board making sure the screws were all tight. Seems to have fixed the problem. I will take this up with Samsung but paid the £131 to get bit done and have the TV back.

Tony W., April 2011
I have a Samsung LCD TV, 18 months old, model LE40B620R3WQXU which has exactly the same fault as the rest of you. Just phoned Samsung who have said that the 'B' model does not suffer from the same problem therefore they will not repair it FOC! I've submitted a complaint and await a call from the Samsung Complaints Department. Thank you to those of you that have posted on here. It provides the ammunition to fight my case. Have elected to go ahead and get the set repaired and then try and claim the cost back.

Tony W, April 2011
Good for you guys getting Samsung to admit to something and then fix it.

I have an issue with a power supply board with voltages that are too LOW and a crappy picture and Samsung says nothing is wrong with the TV. The set was 2 weeks old when I first complained soooooooooo if you live in Canada and just bought a new Samsung TV, good luck eh!

grakky, April 2011
Telephoned Samsung UK today (0845 726 7864) 11th April 2011, I simply said that 'my 52" LCD had developed the known power on problem' I was then asked for the model number & serial number, happily despite being almost 4 years old, a local engineer rang back within 2 hours to arrange a free repair! Well done Samsung for providing this no quibble policy!

Phil C, April 2011
i rang the number ( 0845 726 7864 ) about my fault (power supply board Clinking on & off) they gave me a ref: and 2 days later, Today Fri-1-4-11 came out and fixed my 4 year old Samsung 40 lcd free as this is a common fault and by law must repair. RESULT> :)). Thanks.

Paul Mahoney, April 2011
Phone the free number - 10 mins later = free repair. You have to do this!!!!!!

Tom M, March 2011
Hi There.
Success I rang on Saturday explained the problem. And an engineer is going to contact me on monday to arrange a time for him to sort it.All free of charge.
the number i rang was 0845 726 7864.
Thanks to this site i've saved myself a repair bill.

Don, March 2011
amay atv went off this morning ( lots of clicking ), I'm calling Samsung tomorrow ( saturday ).Hope I get sorted asap. I'll let you know.

Don, March 2011
I was going to ignor this problem with my 40" LCD TV as I the TV was around 3 to 4 years old but after reading this site I rang Samsung on 0330 726 7864 and quoted the model & serial number & they are sending someone out free of charge to repair!

Vikki, March 2011
Started having this issue last week and got hopeful when I read this site. My TV Model Code is: LE32A455C1DXXU but they said I have to take it to an engineer as its not one of the known models to have an issue and pay for a repair! Damn Samsung!

Lisa, March 2011
Hi, I bought my TV in UK but we are now living in Germany. Do you think the Samsung UK will arrange for someone in Germany to fix it for me? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Suz, March 2011
Was about to take mine to the tip. It's a 4 year old LE40M87BDX and it's been in the spare room faulty and gathering dust for a year. Thought i'd have one last trawl on t'internet for any ideas and came across this forum. I phoned Samsung today and they're replacing the capacitors FOC. Result....Thanks very glad

Reprob8, March 2011
Just as an addition to my last post.My repair was free of charge.I understand electronic manufacturers are liable for a manufacture/design fault for up to 5 years under an EU directive.Seeing as so many people have had this problem the manufacturer cannot dispute there is a problem of design or inferior parts fitted.

BIGTONE, March 2011
I just had this problem repaired on my 52"LCD by a nominated tv engineer actioned by Samsung. My set is 4 years old.The engineer replaced 4 or 5 capacitors on the Power supply pcb.All done in about 20 mins.It appears this problem is most common on LCD TV's.
If you have this problem ring the Samsung helpline for your country. They will ask you for the model number, serial number and approx date when purchased. They will then give you a reference number then wait for the engineer to contact you.If you leave this fault too long there is a danger you will damage/corrupt the main eeprom then the TV will not work at all. Then it can be costly to repair.

BIGTONE, March 2011
Can anyone please tell me how i go about getting this sorted in spain FOC. I have the same problem Switch just clicks. It is now taking well over an hour to get TV to turn on. TV is about 2 and a half yeard old.

Hoping someone can help...

David Guichard, March 2011
Rang samsung on Wed and TV i had for 4 years fixed on Fri, free of charge! Really happy to come across this site! Thankyou all

Satisfied Customer, March 2011
thank you to every one for your comments, rung samsung 2 days later they sent an engineer, my 3 yr old samsung tv is now working perfectly, FREE OF CHARGE ......................

S BAILEY, March 2011
I came across this website and read all these comments, and was hopeful that I could get my tv (LE40R74BDX/XEU) repiared after having it for 4 years.
They just ask for my name, tv model and serial number and they were happy to send an engineer FREE of CHARGE! and the identified the 'clicking problem' to be a manufacture fault! What a result!

Happy Customer, March 2011
After reading these threads i phoned samsung and they got someone to get in touch within a couple days and said it was all free of charge. I had assumed they had figured out this problem and passed the message onto engineer they were sending but he came looked at tv said he knew what was wrong with it and had to order part. So he took tv away with him said it be back in 5 - 10 days. Is this normal practice or should i be concerned i ll never see my tv again. heh

A Moorman, March 2011
My Samsung TV (LE40B620R3W) is just over a year old and I have the same problem. The TV rarely stays switched on for more than an hour before switching itself off. Samsung will not fix the problem as the TV is outside the 12 month warranty period. I have since been told its due to faulty capacitors on the power supply board which will cost around £120 to replace. Will definately be staying well clear of any Samsung products in the future.

David, March 2011
iv had the same problem with my t.v Le40n87bdx/xeu it started clicking and taking a couple of minutes to switch on its now taking over an hour, the tv is 4 yrs old after finding this site i have rang samsung and am awaiting an engineer to call me, it will be fixed FOC within 2 days

sjay, March 2011
Don't all asume that you will be given a FOC fix I have just come off the phone with Samsung my tv is only 1 and a 1/2 years old and is doing the exact same thing as everyone else's but because they don't have my model (LE40B620R3W) on their faulty list they will do nothing about it and I will have to pay for the repair myself as you might guess i am very angry about this, a product that costs so much should not break down after 1 and a 1/2 years!!

Mandy, March 2011
Exact same problem arose with my Samsung LCD TV LE46M8 over christmas, started off just taking a few minutes more than usual to swith on but has got worse over last two months, can now be over an hour. After finding out this is a common fault, rang Samsung right away (0330 7267864) thinking Id have a battle on my hands as TV is more than 2 years old and out of warranty, couldnt have been more wrong. I was politely asked for the model no. and serial no. and after a few minutes was given a ref no. and told a Samsung technician would contact me to arrange an appointment for repair within 2 business days all totally free of charge.

Meshe, February 2011
tv went down this morning same fault as eveyone phoned the 0845 number 10 min later comin to fix it foc tv is over 3 years old well done samsung :)

Pete, February 2011
This is a great page!
My Samsung LE40 has been brilliant for the last 4 years...and at £999, so it should be.
However it's just developed this fault in the last week. It can take anywhere between 20 mins and an hour to switch on.
I'll be calling Samsung first thing tomorrow in anticipation of a non-chargeable repair.
Thanks howtomendit.com

A.Wilson, February 2011
My 3 year old Samsung 40 inch LCD TV model LE40R88BD developed this fault over christmas it started by clicking itself on and off then became gradually worse taking over 15 mins to turn itself on after clicking on off over and over again, eventually the TV would not turn on at all although it was still clicking and the power light flashing. I decided to google the problem and luckily came across this site i rang the 08457267864 number on saturday gave my TV model and serial no and 3days later the TV repair men have just left my house and my TV has been fixed FOC. If it wasn't for this site i would have probably had to pay for a repair my self or would have bought a new TV as i had no extended warenty so thought i had now chance of a free fix. If your TV is doing any of these things ring up as Samsung are obviously at fault.. after such a speedy and friendly response my faith in buying from samsung has been restored once again :)

Sarah, February 2011
To martinm could you please give me that number to call?? I have a 50inch that will take its time coming on or do you have any ideas?

mannydukes, February 2011
have the same problem with my le40a656 but samsung denied there was any problems and say that i have to pay for the repair

martinm, February 2011
my samsung 40" tv had all the symtoms that i have read here so i called the number i found on the site and i had it repaired in 3 days thankyou to everyone for the imformation and it was free thanks to samsung as well,by the way our tv was nearly 4 years old

roygreenwood, February 2011
I have just tried the telephone number given in the website and given the TV no LE40B620R3W and been told apparently that this is not one of the models which has the clicking/turning off problem? I have to phone back and give full details of model and serial number but essentially have to call the service team and pay for a repair if it is determined that there is fault with the capacitor or any other known issues they will reimburse apparently - anyone have any other suggestions?

Clare G, February 2011
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed to this discussion. From first googling the problem to finding this web site to calling 0845 726 7864 to receiving a free of charge repair was only 24 hours. What a service. Our TV is now working properly again.

Simon, February 2011
had a very interesting conversation with samsung on saturday, i thought i'd see if i could blag a free extended warranty as they were in denial when mine went wrong and i had to fix it myself. however because i fixed it myself they won't touch it or even give me a new psu for insurance against future problems. they would have re-imbursed me if i'd paid for a samsung fix though :-(

i feel sorry for those who scrapped their sets or offloaded them on e-bay! does anyone know when samsung first acknowledged this issue?

mick, February 2011
My tv had this very same problem and its 4 years old. 15 mins on the phone and 2 days later it was fixed.Soooo glad i googled it. Didnt cost a penny either.

matt, February 2011
This is a free repair from Samsung, just call them on 0845 726 7864, my tv is 3ish years old. They've told me it'll be repaired within 2 days for free.

Simon, February 2011
Thanks to everyone for this thread - it's saved £££££s. We had the same problem, rang the 01932 Samsung no.& were told their engineer's call-out charge would be £108 as the set is over its 1 year guarantee. Started to quote from this website and postings and suddenly were told an engineer would be with us in 48 hours to rectify the fault free of charge. He came this pm, put things right within 20 mins. How good is that?! Thank you very much Samsung - great service!! And thank goodness for websites like this one too!

Jayne, February 2011
just called samsung on the numbers that others have given and they have arranged a sevice centre to call monday and arrange a free of charge board swap over. thank you all for the posts and thank you samsung for not messing people about and delivering a fantastic backup service that people can trust.

a munro, January 2011
had my 4 year old TV fixed free of charge to-day by Samsung, only took 15 minutes to change the power board. no receipt was asked for either!!!
thanks to those here who posted the phone number!

talldwarf, January 2011
Getting my LE40F86BD fixed next week. I gave them my serial number and they could tell straight away when it was purchased(3 and a half years ago) but said they would fix for free as it is a common problem with Samung's! :)

paulo, January 2011
I have a Samsung LE40M86BDX/XEU with the clicking problem. I'm having to wait 4 or 5 minutes for the TV to turn on. The TV is 2yrs old and I don't have the receipt. Will Samsung repair the TV without a receipt?

barnsguy, January 2011
samsung arrived today 20 minutes to fix thanks to the help here oh and samsung.uk customers shouldn't have to pay according to the technician if its the coppasters hope this helps guys

mr relieved, January 2011
i would like to thank all on here who have posted comments about their samsung sets and the problem with them clicking continually without turning on, i have a le40r73bd which is almost 3 years old, so i called samsung to-day who have agreed to repair it free of charge on wednesday!!! i did try the retailer first (currys) who required £60 from me for their engineer to visit and remove the TV to see if the fault is due to the manufacturer and their components or whether due to wear and tear, which i could see it being for them to avoid repairing free of charge, but samsung did not argue in the slightest, so i would advise anyone with a similer problem to call them direct!
many thanks again and fingers crossed they are as good as their word!!

talldwarf, January 2011
I was just about to take my LE40R74BD to my local repair shop where I had been quoted £90 to repair the clicking problem and came across your forum. Am I glad I saw this site first. I also rang Samsung on 019321454358 answered a few questions and within minutes was told that an engineer will be calling to repair FOC at my home!

Robert, January 2011
My LE40M87BDX tv was repaired today, free of charge, woo hoo. It was the capacitors. The engineer was in and out of the house within 30 minutes....

Chris G., January 2011
my 40inch samsung away at approved repair centre thanks to samsung, the same centre that charged me £90 to fix the clicking problem less than 2 yrs ago. this time foc thanks to this forum.

Martin S, January 2011
My Samsung LE40R74BD, which is over two years old, has had problems with not switching on and also switching on of its own accord.

Was going to ask my local tv repair centre to look at it until I came across the postings here.

Telephoned Samsung and they arranged for an engineer to call and the set has now been fixed free of charge.

Paul Hammond, January 2011
My LE40R74BD had the same problem took 15 mins to turn on. Rang Samsung on 01932 454358 who said will arrange repair call back. Repair man called & came out within a week. Repair man changed the 10v capasitors to 16v & said the problem is due to 12v running through them. He also said he fixes at lest 2 per day.

superspacepig, January 2011
Thanks for everyone posting on this forum, my 3 year old no warrenty Samsung LE40M87BDX LCD TV started to make a clicking noise when turning on, it has so far taken about 5 minutes to turn on and I'm expecting it to take longer after reading other peoples posts. I called Samsung on 0330 726 7864 (03 numbers are included in free call packages) at 09:00 and by 16:00 the engineers called to make appointment. They said that if it was the capacitors then Samsung would pay but anything else wrong then its up to me to foot the bill (probably no more than £75, they said, still cheaper than a new TV) They coming next week.

Chris G., January 2011
Can I add my thanks to those others my three and a half year old le40r88bdx/xeu set developed this exact fault about three weeks ago but eventually kept coming on. I rang the help desk this morning 08457 267864 and spoke to a helpful lady in Cairo of all places. Told me I would get a call within two days but the engineer called within 20 minutes and said it should be the capacitors and if so it will be fixed FOC.

Barry in Chester., January 2011
I got up this morning and my Samsung TV is clicking on and off!!! thanks to everyone for taking the time to write on this site. I will be ringing Samsung first thing tommorrow. I hope they come out asap otherwise the kids are going to drive me crazy!!

Sharon, January 2011
Me too!! Rang Samsung, TV 13 months old, engineer came 2 days later, tightened a few screws and hey presto, TV is fine now. If only I'd have known, I would have done it myself!! Well done Samsung, very impressed with your after sales service, will have no qualms about buying Samsung again.

Kate, January 2011
Many Thanks to this forum, I had the same problem with my Samsung and have had it repaired FOC,
Thanks

Jackie- Manchester, January 2011
Thanks forum !
I have got a 3year old Samsung LE40R87BD . For a month or so it was taking longer and longer to switch on and finally today all it does is click. Had visions of hefty repair bill (or death by electric !) Rang Samsung and unprompted they said it was a recognized fault with capacitors and they are sending repairman FOC.
Samsung have ensured the next TV I buy will be theirs and you have my eternal gratitude. xx

Alan Woody, January 2011
Obviously a major problem - my 52" has given up the ghost but at least it got me through xmas. Just 2 years old - Bought another one - smaller - 42" - at the same time and thats still ok.

Samsung very helpful and sending an engineer

Sue, January 2011
thanks guys for your help my Samsung also started to do the on /off business over christmas to.Have now contacted Samsung coming out in 48 hours? free of charge to give me the solution which I think we already know

fed up in Wales, January 2011
Hmmm - no good - engineer came and replaced capacitors but he suspects my processor has gone bad as the problem persists. Unfortunately the processer is now obsolete so I can't even seem to get a replacement. Very fed up about the whole thing. I phoned Currys (I bought the TV on line from them in Sept 2007 and it cost £900). I really don't think that £300 per year useage means it's a reasonable quality!

Next step - waiting for Currys to phone me on Monday, and have a Samsung engineer coming out on Thursday - even if the Samsung engineer can fix it, I want Currys to pay for £47 the engineer's visit cost me.

Will keep updating.

Pestie, Kent, January 2011
Hi all - thank goodness for the internet and forums like these. I have a Samsung LE40R88DB bought about 3 years ago and this morning (New Year's Eve of all days!) it stopped working. It is now just cycling the power but never really turning it on succesfully with a clicking noise. Have called Samsung and they will send a FOC engineer to me within the next few working days - but it's an extended bank holiday!!!

I have decided to have the repair done myself by a very nice local man (will cost £33 + parts but he can come out to me today) and hope that does the trick - I think I'll let the Samsung engineer visit anyway as I assume they'll have a kit of parts that they will replace as a matter of course.

Thanks everyone for posting - will let you know how I get on.

Pestie, Kent, December 2010
Has anyone been asked to send a copy of their receipt. My Samsung is 13 months old and they've said they need a copy of the receipt before they can send an engineer????

Kate, December 2010
0ur LE40R74BD has been doing the clicking and taking 5 minutes to get going. It finally stopped working Christmas Eve.
Rang Samsung on the 08457267864, for around eight minutes, today and within 2 days an engineer will be calling to come and fix at home free of charge.
Thanks to everyone for the advice on here and over at AVS.

Dave - Nottingham, December 2010

jason, December 2010
My 3 year old samsung tv le40m86bd developed a clicking sound and wouldn't turn on, sometimes for 20 minutes. After reading the advice on this great site i contacted samsung tel:08457267864.After listening to my problem the lady from samsung immediately asked me for my model no. and serial no. and said a samsung engineer would contact me in the next 2 days to repair it free of charge.Thank you all for your help.

pete, December 2010
The problem it seems most of you have is located on the power board. Have just repaired my Daughters Samsung 42 inch. If you are handy with a soldering iron and screwdriver you need to replace at least one capacitor on this board. If you need more information email me.

David, December 2010
Exactly the same problem. Really need help dont have a clue where to go and with it so near christmas budget is tight.
Any help much appreciated

Charlene Suffolk, December 2010
My Samsung 40" LE40R88BD stopped working a a couple of weeks ago. It would not come on and could only here a clicking/ticking sound. After following the advice on this thread. I got it fixed for free by Samsung. It was approx 2 & 1/2 years old with no extended warranty. I rung Samsung on 08457267864, the woman at the end was very helpfull and said she was going to send a company called DBS YORK (FROM YORK) to come take a look at it FOC. She then said that if the fault was with the circuit board that it would be fixed for FREE. She said If it was a diffrent fault the it would be chargable but no call out charge. She gave me a job No & said DBS would be in touch.
When DBS phoned 1 hour later they asked if I had a repaire number I said only a job number. The woman from DBS knew that it was a capacitor problem and said that she would sort out a repaire number. She said that somone would be out Monday to repare it. When they came they took telly away to repaire and said it would take a few days as I needed new capacitors and a miro chip changing. The next day they phoned to arrange for it to be delivered back, which I arranged for my day off. All in all I was very happy with the service even though I was not expecting my telly to be taken away. It was back within the space of a week, taking a bit longer due to it being over the weekend. Just glad it didnt stop over Christmas period as may have taken longer. Anyway it is now working fine. Very happy that It didnt cost me a penny. Thank you Samsung very good customer service 7 thank you to everyone on this thread

Was a great relief to find this thread and realise this was a common issue with the TV. Have since rung the 01932 number and waiting to hear from the service centre, will keep you posted but thanks again all

P.S. If it packs up again with the same fault, I'll be sure to try the mend-it tips mentioned... much thanks to Steve for the pix and fix and Nats + partner for the Eprom tip. I've made a note and I am going to practice my soldering from a skoolkid with breadboards ready for the next fault!

Finding this site my first thought was a self-repair, but when Samsung recognise this as a common "capacitor" fault on certain models, then, it seemed sensible to get a qualified technician if they offer a free-of-charge repair for an acknowledged design fault.

Actually finding I will have loads more time to do the other jobs with no tv in the lounge... didn't realise what a telly addict I was! I'll try and use it less in future...! ;-D

I got this problem today too. I called the customer service centre on 08457267864. The lady I spoke to at the call centre took my details to set up an account (although I had registered the product online when I bought it but they had no details).

I've been given a reference number and I was told I will get a repair free of charge and to expect a phone call to arrange repair visit within the next 48 hours.

My telly is a 52 inch flat screen model LE52M86BDX/XEU and cost me a hefty £2100 three years ago.

I have to say in my experience normal CRT TVs last 10+ years before packing-up or needing a repair, so I was a bit miffed my expensive telly has packed up at 3 years 3 months. In fact the 36" CRT this telly replaced is still going strong on its 11th Birthday!

For me, and according to the law, the goods must be of satisfactory quality, including durability. So I would expect at least 6+ years of trouble free running before expecting a repair. On a £2100 purchase , I think this is a reasonable expectation. Just over three years is poor.

Luckily if Samsung correct this admitted common fault and it lasts another three I shall be a happy and satisfied customer... and if it lasts one or two I'll be sure to buy Samsung again... as I currently have on other products.

Shaun - Lancashire, November 2010
Just found this site, thought i was alone! Have rang samsung on 08457267864 and spoke to a person called harry, the call lasted 9mins 40secs and he has said that i will be contacted within 2 working days and an engineer will repair free of charge and mentioned the capacitor. My tv model is LE46M86BDX and cost £1700 in 2007. So will keep you updated! Still not happy that my TV should be faulty especially when it cost so much but there we go. Thanks to all for this site very helpful lets hope samsung are the same.

S Hanlon, November 2010
Success!! the bloke arrived on time and fixed the problem
(4 faulty capacitors) in 20 minutes.

Now good as new :)

Mooro ~ London, November 2010
Read this forum yesterday, and thought I'd give it a shot. Called C.S. and they said they can't authorise FOC repair as Model was not on their list as faulty. Argued that it was not good enough, and was then told to contact Samsung Head Office, and that I should get it authorised. Spoke to a 'senior manager' and was given short shrift as it was 'out of warranty' and that as a goodwill gesture they would offer to pay for parts; but that I would have to pay for labour. Wasn't happy with that, and asked to speak to someone more senior, at which point they calmed down with their tone, however refused to budge on that 'gesture of goodwill'. Told me to speak to independant lawyers if I wanted to go any further with them.

Any ideas what I could/ should say or do next?

CookieRocks, November 2010
Same problem with our three-year old LE40R74BDB... clicking and taking ages to switch on.

Cost us £700 new. We were preparing ourselves for the worst - a tricky self-repair, if that failed a costly repair job, or bite the bullet and buy a brand new telly, just the wrong side of Christmas.

But afer following the advice here, Samsung are sending out a repairman on Wednesday. Free of charge. Even though it's outside the warranty.

Brilliant! Thanks everyone. And top marks to Samsung.

Jon, November 2010
Thanks to everyone, same problem, did the 0845 thing and an engineer is coming during the week to fix FOC.

Happy Days :)

Mooro ~ London, November 2010
same problem. Found this forum and called Samsung (CAIRO) on the 01932 number. FOC engineer is coming to fix the TV. Will post again if no result within 48 hours but based on positive feedback left here have every faith!

Si, November 2010
My 40" has the same problem - bit 'iffy' for a few days now and this morning it won't start at all.
It is out of warranty, of course, about 2 1/2 years old now.

Rang Samsung on 01932 454358 at 9.00 this morning.
Got through right away, and spoke to a charming young lady who was very helpful, and after asking a few questions and getting the serial number, said that she was authorising a free in-house repair, and that an engineer will call me today to make an appointment.
Will post results after it happens.

Up to now - full Brownie points to Samsung!

Alan from Lincoln, November 2010
my light is not flashing but tv wont switch on... is this the same fault as listed please ???

tracey, November 2010
i took stevens advise, cost me a grand total of 84p , no phone calls. no hanging around ! and 20 mins to fix ! thanks Steven, you saved me loads of money !

tracey jobling, November 2010
Guys,

Same problem LE40R74BD about 2yrs old. Called Customer Support who gave me a number for an authorised local repair agent in Kent who had an £80 call out charge - phoned Customer Support back on the 0845 number above stated I was unhappy and this was unacceptable - Now they are sending an engineer to contact us within 2 business days to do a free repair.

John, October 2010
Contacted Samsung on 03307267864 regarding my LR40R88BD yesterday as same clicking probs and no start up. The TV was bought in 2007, and is now out of warranty, so I thought big bills. I was wrong !! :)

I am waiting for and engineer to collect it today, they said it will be returned tommorow and that the repair will be FOC, GOOD TIMES :) Thanks Samsung.
*** MAKE SURE YOU CALL IF YOUR HAVING THIS PROBLEM ***

Nathan, October 2010
After reading the posts on this page I decided to take some peoples advice and ring samsung to report the problem to see if could save myself some money. After quiet a few attempts ringing the customer service line I eventually got through. I explained the problem and the lady took my model number etc from the bk of the tv. It turns out my model was on the list and after a few more details were given was told an engineer would be in touch within 48 hrs. The next day I received the call and an appointment was set for the next day. The engineer arrived and after replacing 2 parts FOC he was on his way ( within 20 mins, and in my front room)
Obviously very happy that the Tv is fixed and has saved me at least £700 having to buy a new one. Very happy.
It's worth a try people

Smithy, September 2010
i would like to say thank you to everyone for posting. I had the same problem of flashing light and clicking sound. I also have Lcd40a556. Called Samsung who said model was not on list but on speaking to someone in complaints a FOC inspection was arranged and even though it took 5 days, engineers came and fixed TV in minutes. Thanks to this site and Samsung, managed to save money.

Asif, September 2010
My samsung le40a556 stopped working today. wont switch on and standby light just flashes purchased in may 08. called samsung today. after 20mins on hold was told its out of warrenty and to contact local service centre, then was cut off.
called a 2nd time and told the same thing and cut off.
called 3rd time and mentioned that it was repaired under warrenty when it was 2 months old and same problem is back. and that I was rudely cut off by previous 2 people, kicked up a massive stink and now call has been escalated, and expecting a call back within 2 business days.
as a note they said they have a list of all known tv's that have these problems and apparently my tv is NOT on the list.
A further note - the call centre is in egypt.

Nin - Warwickshire, September 2010
Samsung did what they said. They contacted us within 2 working days and two engineers came out to house. They replaced faulty part with no charge - said the wrong part had been fitted.
Good service. TV now perfect.

j morgan, September 2010
just a quick follow up to my earlier rant. All the people who are waiting for engineers to call and carry out repairs, are they managing to fix the fault or are you all on the comensation option ? The reason I ask is a work collegue is now in the same position as myself, ie can't repair so awaiting compensation.

Curly K, September 2010
Jusat called Samsung at 800-726-7864 and spoke to the TV repair department. This issue is on their Free Repair List. They will set up an appointment for you to have one free repair of this issue. They were extremely pleasant to work with.

Greg, September 2010
Thank you for the information that people are posting. Our tv won't switch on. I have just contacted samsung - they have promised a contact from an engineer within 2 working days and free of charge inspection. Very helpful so far.

jmorgan, September 2010
same problem, set switching on/off. Samsung contacted and their initial answer 'out of warranty nothing they could offer'. So escalated complaint and lo and behold they sent out an engineer. He came and admitted very common problem would try and order parts but don't hold your breath. A week later, as engineer predicted, we cannot obtain parts (for a 3 yr old tv!!!) and we will offer compensation payment. Thank the lord samsung don't make cars !. I won't bore you with following 3 weeks of waiting but now received their offer, 34% of purchase price, take it or leave it. In the circumstances I'll take their money and buy Panasonic, Sony, in fact anything but Samsung. stuff em.

Curly K, September 2010
Hi all,
I have the same problem with Samsugn LCD tv about 2 1/2 years old.. I contacted Samsung customer services today Thursday on Tel 08457267864, and they were great! Phoned 9 o’clock 10 30 engineers phone calling this Saturday
To fix it free many thanks for info

Les South Yorkshire, September 2010
hi guys did this capasitor mod yesterday after reading this forum. thanks for the info. cost £1-90. easy job

brian, September 2010
Having the same problem as most people. TV is just over 2 and a half years old. Its only a 19" samsung (LE19R86BD) and has problems for a little while. At first it took to switching itself on at night (rather loudly) then once this stopped it started taking a few clicks of the power button to go on. Over the past couple of weeks it has been taking longer and longer (up to 20 minutes) and this morning will not switch on at all. Going to give Samsung a ring after finding this forum. Will keep you updated. x

Ricky (Wirral), September 2010
I called samsung about the same problem on my 3.5 year old tv & they were excellent in saying they would repair it free of charge.24hrs later i got a call from the local tv repair people whom came out and fixed the problem on-site in 20 minutes!Well done samsung i know whom i will be buying my next tv from!

Alan Cook ....England...., September 2010
Had same prob with my samsung 40in tv approx 3 years old .called samsung, took 30 mins to answer but was offered free repair without even asking when i told them what prob was .As i have another identical tv they offered to replace power board on both free of charge .Local repairer called next day to arrange repair and completed within 30 mins on arrival .Well done samsung !!

simon, August 2010
I have a 40" Samsung that started intermittently cutting out over a month, this grew to not turning on for 10-30 mins at a time, until finally yesterday it would not turn on at all, so having read this site at work (and without even opening my TV to check) I finished work, drove to Maplins and bought 5x 1000uF 25v 105c capacitors for £49p each (turns out I only needed 2). I had a cursory glance at YouTube (having not held a soldering iron since I was at school 20 yrs ago). Whole job done in an hour, I went slowly just to be 100% I wasn't going to ruin it further. Definitely recommend this as DIY, I couldn't have waited 24hrs for someone to come fix it, whether it cost me or was free.
Thanks to all who inspired me to DIY.

James W (UK), August 2010
Hi ALL

I have the same problem with mine, and a work colleague has to, so there must be thousands of us. Why don't we all complain via samsung, a lot of you seem to be missing the point. Praising samsungs response to fixing F.O.C, what about the fact that we all paid £500+ for a TV that has failed!! Not just one or two people, but thousands!!! When we bought the tv in good faith from a retailer we did NOT expect to be without it in 12-18 months time. So yes SAMSUNG are fixing them, but when i complained 8 months ago all they did was send me details of a local samsung approved repair centre. It's all wrong Samsung are at fault, they have had our hard earned cash, and supplied faulty goods!!!

Tony 73tt, August 2010
Ricardo (Barnsley)
I had the same problem,,,,
Remove the power supply board and take it to the repair shop at the bottom of Stairfoot on Doncaster road near Jacksons food shop.... charged me £40.00 to replace them, I re-fitted the board and it works a treat.

Hi there,
I have recently developed the same problem with my TV which is 18months old . I have made contact with Samsung, which incidently is in Cairo, who refused to offer me any help. I have since called an Engineer to it who has qouted me £335 to repair it. Any ideas?

Mark F, August 2010
Took 1and half hours to talk to someone on helpline. quite helpfull. Referred me to a local[10 miles away] service agent [ Doncaster].Told me its the capasitors mentioned by so many people. 125 pounds to repair but waiting for samsung to get back in touch tomorrow . My TV is 40 inch and 2 and a half years old. Tech support guy wasn,t keen on saying it was a common problem.

Ricardo , Barnsley, August 2010
Update - engineer called out today, repalced 4 faulty capacitors took 15 minutes (took longer to take out and replace screws than it it to replace parts) job done. Glad I checked this site out.

Juls F, August 2010
hi. update 2. i emailed samsung about my problems trying to get my tv fixed free of charge. next day i got a call from service centre. tv was taken away today. they also left a replacement. which is a samsung le32c450 i think. hopefully my tv will not be away too long. as the replacement is nowhere near as good a picture. ;)

Stewart, Fife., August 2010
My Samsung LE40R88BD doing the same followed advice and checked the capacitors - cm811,cm817 and CM812 all blown. Contacted Samsung on 03307267864 answered within 3 mins all details taken given service ref number and told would be repaired free of charge even though out of warranty as set 3 years old. I was contacted same day by engineer and arranged for set to be repaired at home within 2 day. Well impressed. Waiting now for engineer will post update when sorted. Take Forum advise and call samsung - saved grief of taking to repairers and money.

Juls F, August 2010
a quick update. after my call to samsung and them agreeing to fix my lcd FOC In home i waited patiently for a few days on a call from a repair centre. none came i called again to be told my number had been forwarded to the wrong department. again i was promised a call from engineer. and again i have had none. i noticed on the samsung website you can check service status using the ten digit reference number given in the call. decided to check it and it appears they have canceled the repair due to no warranty left on tv. happy days, another call to try and sort this out. hopefully its just a few teething problems with their new call centre in Cairo. it just opened start of august. and hopefuuly they will agree to fix it again.

Stewart, August 2010
My Samsung LE40R73BD is 3 years and 4 months old. Started to switch on and off on start-up last week and now won't ever make it on. Called Samsung today having read this site and they are coming out to fix it for free next week. No extended warranty whatsoever.

Nick, August 2010
I phoned the number which was give in previous posting (03307267864) i got through within 5 mins. they asked for model & serial no:-, they were very happy to help, an engioneers getting in touch in a few days & they are fixing it in my home free of charge because it a known issue. my TV's over 3 yrs old. give them a ring...

Strider, August 2010
quick update, Samsung called me back and are going to fix it for free, I take it all back they do care.......

Graham, August 2010
Samsung wouldn't fix mine I have a le46f86bdx with the same fault. (Out of Warranty) The most they would do is send an engineer but the repair would be at my cost not theirs. That was after waiting on the phone for 1 1/2 hours too. Shame on Samsung.

Graham, August 2010
hi guys. my samsung le40r87bdx 40" lcd tv started this fault yesterday. just clicks away for around 5 minutes at most. thankfully after a quick net search i found this. i called samsung on the 0330 SAMSUNG(7267864) and within a minute i was talking to someone. they asked model number and serial and told me without me asking it would be a free in home repair. waiting on the repair man calling now to arrange this. i'm delighted that they have admited its a fault and are willing to fix it. well done samsung... although only because i called. there will be tv's scrapped.

stewart, August 2010
I just called Samsung and explained my problem, about my tv not turning on, just clicking away non-stop. They acknowledged the capacitor issue. Before I had this clicking problem, I also had stripes and weird repeat images on the right side of the set until it warmed up, that sometimes would come back after the set was running for a few hours. I turned down the backlighting and it would go away in a few minutes. The stripes problem was temperature sensitive. I think the symptoms are related to the over worked capacitors. I wonder what Electronic Contract Manufacturer made the boards for Samsung?
I'm waiting or my return phone call to schedule the in house repair.

Turbocouch, August 2010
Hi guys, I've had the same problem with my LE40R74BDX. Lots of clicking and taking 5 mins to turn on. I just phoned Samsung customer service and they have booked it in for an 'at home' repair, free of charge. I didn't even ask for it to be free nor complain. They said it is a goodwill gesture . Good luck! Soldering capacitors is an easy job if you feel like taking it on but getting Samsung to repair it free of charge is even easier. Oh, and my tv is 3.5 years old so well out of warranty! Phone Samsung!!!

Jimmy hill, July 2010
I had the same problem, and after reading your posts (thank you so much ) I decided to leave them an email on their web site (under CONTACT US at the very bottom) stating the problem and my mobile number. They phoned me the next day.......and so they should, why should we pay for their mistakes.

Craig, July 2010
41 mins and counting and still waiting for them to answer my call, gettin quite angry

dave, July 2010
Thanks to finding this forum on Sunday night due to my LE40A556 suddenly doing strange things like the menu popping up or the volume increasing on it's own & once turning on by itself. Later on Sunday I had the problem where the TV would not turn on straight away, at first it took over 30 minutes to come on and when I tried it Monday night it would still not turn on after 5 hours. All that would happen was the screen would stay blank and the red LED would flash intermittently but no clicking as reported by many owners.
I rang Samsung on Monday morning who referred it to the local service centre who then called me at lunch time to arrange a visit Tuesday afternoon which I thought was excellent service. The guy turned up today whilst I was at work and I got a phone call from my girlfriend saying I needed to speak to the engineer, he said that as he could not hear any clicking it would probably have to be taken away for a non warranty diagnosis and repair quote even though he had not taken the TV apart to inspect the capacitors. I convinced him to have a quick look whilst I drove home. I met the engineer at home who said the capacitors looked iffy but not swollen/blown as per the usual fault but he would replace the 10v capacitors with 16v anyway. Lo and behold the TV worked and so far it has been on for about 5 hours and none of the menu popping up or volume changing on it's own has happened so far.
Hopefully this will help people to convince Samsung that the capacitors do not need to click to be faulty.

Fran, July 2010
Further to previous posts. They sent somebody today to fix it (at least that was my understanding) but the guy told me that he is here just to pick it up for service center and they will take upto 5 days. I dont want to miss football tonight.

The guy told me that he wud call the company and ask if they cud fix it on site and will get back to me.

I see lot of people on this forum saying that it was fixed on site.

Ali Aberdeen, July 2010
I have had the same problem with an LE40R74BD, to be honest compared to the disasters of Toyotas recalls I don't feel it is an issue for watchdog or whatever provided Samsung tend to it reasonably efficiently. The set is 3 and half years old so well out of warranty, so do I expect free of charge repair? well maybe it would be nice, but I would accept small payment (not £200 though).

So with this in mind I called the 0845 number. Apart from the call holding wait (nearly 9 mins), I can't complain (yet). Got a customer ref number, and have been told I will get a free repair at home.

now, considering even the warranty (long since run out) would be a return to base warranty, and considering the TV gets hours of use a day, and is 40 months old, no complaints there.

Let us see if the repair is done nice and speedily, and effectively

Guy Gampell, July 2010
further to my post an hours ago. after 30 minutes of wait I finally got connected to one of the support person. Very professional and helpful.

they were aware of the problem but told me that I will have to take it to the repair shop myself as its only 32 inch screen but upon telling them that I have a genuine health problem and I am not allowed to lift any weights they arranged a company to come to my place.

very gud samsung I can trust samsung even more.

Ali- Aberdeen, July 2010
Same problem here too. thanks to everybody for their posts. i am on their support number queue for last 18 minutes now and I hope they pick it up and solve the problem for me.

Ali - Aberdeen, July 2010
Just to follow on from my post yesterday 1st July, after calling Samsung at 9.55am I got a call 25mins later from engineer, he came out at luch time, 20mins later replaced 3 capacitors and TV is now working fine.
He said that he has had HUNDREDS of TV's with the same problem, the wrong capacitors were used, 10volt and they are not strong enough, he replaced them with 25volt, Samsung know about the problem and so will repair all free of charge.

Great service Samsung.

saly, July 2010
Thank goodness I found this forum:) my SAMSUNG LE40R87BD brought 2 1/2 yers ago started to click when switched on about 8weks ago, also when finally on the screen colour would be pink, we had sound at full volume and could'nt turn it down, no sound all sorts of strange things were happening, I thought thats it I will have to buy a new t.v, until I found this forum, I have just phoned Samsung on 08457367864 and they are sending a repair man out in the nest 2/3 days, to repair free of charge.

Very pleased with them, no questions asked he just said it is a known fault with the TV.

Sally, July 2010
Just wanna say thanks to everyone who posted here. I was so mad as I only had the telly just over a year and it wouldn't switch on one night - really bizzare, after googling the problem I found this page and took the number from one of the postings (08457267864) take all the serial number's off the back of your telly when calling as they need it. Anyway, one call to them and it was no problem it will be sorted no charge an engineer came the next day, took my telly away and dropped it back off the next day. Works a treat now, really impressed with samsung I have to say - just hope it don't go again!

Glasgirl, June 2010
I had the same capacitor fault on my samsung le40a556 which i purchased in april 2008.phoned samsung and i told them id googled the fault and found thousands of people with the same problem and that i wasnt gonna pay to fix the fault.at 1st they tried to say they wasnt aware of the fault,i mentioned trading standards and watchdog and within 2minutes i was speaking to a supervisor who told me they had identified a problem with the capacitors, samsung arranged a repair 9 am the next day.the repair man replaced all the capacitors from 10v to 25v

charlie18, June 2010

just phoned up Samsung told them my TV was taking up to 3 hours to switch on, looked up on this forum of what to do, and told him they was lots of others with LE40R73BD TV models and thought it would be best to ring Samsung on advice of fellow members, he says that he is arranging an engineer to come out to have a look and if its the fault discussed in this forum they would fix it for FREE.
let you know what happens. also have to note he was great and seemed to know the drill, and reckons its been sorted out on later models?....has it anyone? right back to the 19inch till its fixed!

elrods, April 2010
Finally Samsung taking responsibility I am really glad to hear it. What about all the people like myself that had to do their own repairs whilst samsung was in denial. I am gonna put a call into them and see what they have to say. Glad your all getting the service, finally, that we all deserved.

Lynda, April 2010

Thanks for the advice. Our Samsung 40" lcd was 4 years old, changed 2 caps cost 84p from maplins . The guy in maplin said they had sold alot of these caps to samsung owners!!! We were a little worried about giving it a go but am really pleased that we did as it worked.

I can confirm my personal experience tallies with colin j clarke's - called Samsung on the 0845 number above, they took the product details (serial number etc) and then told me they would provide a free repair 'as a goodwill gesture' because they are investigating this issue.

Very pleased and impressed with their service - if you are going to sell faulty products this is 100% the way to deal with the fallout.

Once you have taken the back off of the set, the power supply board is located in the centre. The 4 capacitors rated at 1000uf / 10v or 1000uf / 16v next to the heatsink top right hand side should be replaced & uprated with 1000uf /25v .. 105 degree rating. This is a common upgrade carried out by service engineers to prevent the same thing re occuring at a later date.

Same problem as all the rest of you, took an age to turn on for about 2 weeks, taking longer each time, now will not turn on at all (clicking sound only).

TV is 3 yrs old and out of warranty.

Rang Samsung today at 12.45,they are arranging a service emgineer FREE OF CHARGE to come out and repair it.

New UK customer care number is 0845 726 7864.

Hope this helps.

Just come off the phone to Samsung Customer Care and they organised an engineer to come out and fix the fault free of charge.

Hi......
I have the same problem with LCD tv about the same age... 3 years old.. I contacted Samsung customer services yesterday and they were great! It is a known problem and they organised a foc repair for me straight away..

Use quality capacitors rated at 105c, low impedance, and a high ripple current or you will be replacing them again. I use Rubycon MCZ or any of the ZLs. United Chemi-Con KZE or LXZ work well too. You can get the capacitors from www.thecapking.com, www.digikey.com, www.mouser.com, or www.farnell.com

Update on my last post, Comet engineer arrived today armed with a new power board, took him 15 mins to change and now works perfectly, so the extended warranty I took out was difinitely worth the money and excellent service from Comet. One point to note that when I examined the capacitors on the old board there were no visual sign of them having blown so even if they look ok I would say changing the capacitors will fix the problem as per previous posts.

Great information - our 2 year old LE40S86BDXXEU has the same problem, still under 3 year warrenty and being repaired but Samsung products have gone down in my view. Engineers confirm a common problem with these sets.

Steve, February 2010
i have the same problem but i have taken the back off and none of the caps seem to be blown or leaking and are also rated 35v 1000

stuart, February 2010
Hi all, great info on this problem which my LE40R74BD has started to have. Not happy that it's failed! the set is just over 3 years old but fortunately I have insurance so have an engineer scheduled hopefully he will bring a new power board. I have sent an email to Samsung to see what their official position is. I have also seen on fixya forum that there is a lawsuit pending in the US against Samsung for the same issue, so might be worth supporting.

RayS, February 2010
my samsung 40 inch lcd stopped working last monday. Like most people I phoned samsung and got the same answer; go to visual fx etc etc. Luckily I came across this forum and decided to give it a go on saturday, (yesterday). I found tv had two faulty 1000uf,105 deg, 10v capacitors, so I went to maplin bought two 16v caps for 84p, removed power board, took it to a friends house and we fixed them. I got back home an hour later, fixed the board and the tv started working again. I can't believe I saved so much money. For all those who shared their problems and for all those who shared the solution, my sincerest thanks and best wishes.

LE40R74BDX.

Hi All,
Thanks to everyone for posting problems on this model of tv, it has really helped me out. I had the same......click click click when turning the tv on so i bought 4 1000uf 10v 105c capcitors from CPC in preston for £0.65 and soldered them in. Problem solved. Thanks again to all. One last problem though is that my HDMI socket doesnt work. the problem started when the clicking did. When i try and watch a dvd it is just a green and black screen with lines going up and down. I would much appreciate some help on this one if anybody knows how to repair it. Thanks Ian

Top advice people & a big thanks! I've just replaced 4 split 1000 10v 105c caps on the power board and all is well again, cost £5.50 for a soldering iron, £2 for a tube of solder and £4 for a pack of 10 caps.
I'm only an average DIY er but once I had viewed the YouTube clip found it an easy fix.
The amazing thing is two local TV repair places said it was not a repair that they would attempt!!

Greg, January 2010
Many many thanks saved an old pensioner over a £100. Not only are Samsung crooks but 2 repair shops in my area wanted £120/110 to fix despite me telling them its all on the internet you just change 3 capacitors 812/817/811. I was prepared to pay for this service despite having taken out the board and prepared to deliver etc My mate did the job for me , total cost just over £2 from Maplins . Switched on and up came a lovely blue screen. OH JOY

Hi my LE40R73 has started the same red light clicking on-off proplem with delayed, now no start-up....on Christmas eve!
Having read all the helpful posts on here and viewed the how to fix clip on YouTube I've ordered the 1000mf 10v 105degC capacitors and intend to try the fix. If not I will get a new board.
Frankly I'm disgusted with Samsung, I paid nearly £1000 for it 3 years ago just out of the extended warranty of course.

many thanks for all the information. Repaired my Samsung TV using your instructions and advice. Replaced the 4 capasitors and TV now works perfectly for the total cost of £2.00.

It doesn't click when switching on anymore, but it switches itself off after about 30 mins!
Has anyone any ideas????
Thanks

Sarah T, December 2009

.......Hi Sarah.T......
Tell your hubby to strip it down, remove the power supply board (it's easy), take to a repair shop and they'll do it in an hour.....they charged me £40.00...
Leave the t.v switched off at the mains but still plugged for a few hours before you remove the back, this should discharge any capacitors of stored power!
As with anything electrical, be careful.

Went to the local CineView cinema...... 4 Samsung information display LCD's all with out of order notices on...LoL

Same fault I thought, blue light on/off trying to start up, felt a sense of cockiness cos I knew the problem and how to fix it!!! ;-)
Never buy a Samsung T.V again.......

John Driver, December 2009
Mine has just started doing this!! Taking a few clicks to come on and then going off at random times! I'm gutted as we a short of money as it is with christmas being 4 days away :-(
I have had the tv for 2 yrs 3 months, its a flaming joke!!
Hope hubby can pluck up the courage to try and fix it himself or it looks like there will be no tele in this house over christmas, I can't see a repair man wanting to come out now!!

Sarah T, December 2009
my Samsung was dfficult to turn on and off. I thought it was the remote but then it just went off. I bought it at Circuit City two years ago, bu they went out of business. The company is honoring the contract but the repair service is difficult to deal with - they will pick up only on Tuesday or Thursday morning. My husband is off on Fridays and I teach, so this is creating a hardship for us to take off from work. They are taking it over Christmas - so now I will have to bring up my twenty year old TV set from the basement so people can watch the games, etc. I never had trouble with my tv sets - how good is this tecnnology????? I think it is ridiculous to have to take a day off from work to have a TV picked up - and I guess another to have it returned??? What happened to customer service???????

I have a 46 inch samsung LNT4889F. I found the capacators were bad. They were 2200 uF capacitors. I could only find 1000uf and used them anyway. the television works fine.

Utube.com has a great video to show anyone how to change the capacitors.

Tom, December 2009
Mines repaired now...
I removed board, mine was exactly the same as others have described....4 blown caps!!!
Didn't have time to source caps (kids and wife nagging me to get it repaired), local Maplins had none in stock....
Dropped board off at local tv repair shop, he said he'd replace all 4 for £40.00, I refitted it into my LCD and it works great, started straight away!!
He fitted 1000uf 16v caps, he told me he's done loads..
These Samsung TV's must be the best thing that's ever been built in the eyes of tv repair shops!!
SHAME ON YOU SAMSUNG, NEVER AGAIN!!!

The removal of the board was very easy, worst part was removing all the screws, if yours is faulty....get stuck in!!
Oh, and finally, thanks for the information and tips from earlier posts regarding the problem, I owe you a pint!!

John Driver, November 2009
Well my 40" Samsung started switching off and on itself and then yesterday just clicked away constantly. We had to disconnect the power supply and took it to be repaired. The man said that he had repaired two that day and 8 in the last 6 wks with the same problem. It's apparently the power supply. Had a call this morning - he repaired the power supply but the fault has damaged another part which apparently is obsolete - £670 down the drain and the telly is only 18 months old! Arrrrrrg

From Alison
PS My advice is to send it for repair early on - don't wait for the problem to get worse.

Alison, November 2009
I'm going to have a bash at repairing mine.
My Samsung is a LE40R73BD, where is the best place to buy them and what is the correct type?
Thanks in advance for any help.

John Driver, November 2009
Hi - my 50 inch plasma has the same problem in not turning on and just clicking away (only 2 yrs old!). I've got the back of the TV off and am looking at the different power circuit boards but have no idea how to remove them as there is plastic film/tape connecting the board to the TV itself. I cannot seem to take these out of their connections so cannot take the circuit board out to start soldering. Anyone any ideas? Thank you

Laura J, November 2009

Nearly 3 years old and started clicking!!

John Driver, November 2009
Hi My Samsung LE40R748dx has the same problem- I am going to report to watchdog - ours is 2yrs old and I am gutted - Does anyone know a reasonable engineer in Birmingham they can recommend

P, November 2009
Hello Guys,

For anyone having troubles with the Samsung LE40R87BD and the changing of capacitors has not resolved the problem - try the link below!

Our TV recently refused to power on and did the clicking on and off thing.

After reading this site we opened the back and found the 3 dead capacitors. Changed these with higher voltage ones and all excitedely got ready to watch my TV again......However it still wouldnt work!

We searched on and found another site which gave instuctions on what to try next. It worked, involved resetting the eprom so unless your confident about doing it i would suggest getting someone who knows a bit about TV's etc.

Not sure if this would be suitable for all samsungs as it was in a forum specifically for our model. But thought i would share the info as because of others who have, i now have a working TV and a full wallet!

Nats, November 2009
Hi, again.
Came home from work last night, and the TV wouldn't, come on.
So after dinner, stripped apart some old VCR and DVD players I stored at the back of the shed, and found the capacitors i required.

un-soldered them and re-soldered them back in the power supply card of the Samsung.
I made sure that the temp spec was the same.

I opted for the 16 volt, 1000 micro farad, 105 degree's C although the original are 10 volt.

Put the TV back together, and working perfect.
When I have some spare time, I'll move the capacitors away from the heat sink and onto a separate piece of component mounting strip board, with linking wires joining them to their original position.

So it didn't cost me anything.

So its worth keeping old DVD player's and VCR's etc or just strip them down and keep the PCB's

Steve (Welsh man living in Ireland)., November 2009
Mine (2years old) is clicking for about 2 -3 minutes, then it comes on.
Read most of your posts above.
just took the back off and can see 3 capacitors with the tops opened out.
Clearly getting too hot, and the inner's expanding with heat.
They are CM11, CM812 andCM17, Looked at them, they are all 1000 mfd.
Perhaps a permanent fix is to mount them on a separate pcb and run flying leads to the pcb connections from their original positions
My Samsung model is LE40R74BD

Steve ( Welsh guy living in Ireland), November 2009
same problem have done the watchdog email and given samsung a ticking off, this is disgusting, I paid £1000 for this tv and not even 3 years later - problems. It took 1 hour to come on this morning. I am furious. local repair guy wants to charge me £70 which I know isnt a fortune but when you guys say you've done it in less than an hour for a quid I am loathe to pay him that much. I am really tempted to have a go myself, but someone told me there is a risk of electrocution taking the back off is that true?

Steve Man, November 2009
Thanks for all the advice here.....
My Samsung LCD had the same problems but
I didn't fancy DIY. But armed with knowledge gained here I phoned a couple of repair shops. One Samsung specialist quoted £180 stating that they would only fit a new PCB. However I found a helpful guy at The TV Shop, 131 Cherry Orchard Rd, Croydon, CR0 6BE
(020 8686 1695). He agreed that the fault was very likely capacitors but beware...he did say there can be secondary problems that do require pcb replacement. Happily mine was fixed by changing 4 caps and at £70 I was happy. Interestingly he said it was the 3rd Samsung he had had in this week with the same problem.

peter bevis, November 2009
I have the same model - same problem and do not wish to pay 150 to get it fxed - and the system has stopped working, however I have some questions how are you meant to removed the caps? do I heat the soldering around the cap first? is there a video?

jonathan, November 2009
I have a samsung and it went the same way lots of people with the same thing samsung told me they had never heard of this before mine is nearly 2years it is the control box to swithch on mine started the same way as yours and just got worse my sons is going the same way it cost £150 to get it fixed

aud, November 2009
I have just had four of the capacitors on my 40" Samsung LCD TV replaced by a friend who is an audio engineer, he charged me £25 for the whole job. Thanks to all of your posts here I realised that the TV was worth repairing and for less than the £100 plus that Comet quoted me. You have saved me a lot of money THANK YOU.
As a note though my friend said that problem is because of the design of the board with the capacitors too close to a heat source (the silver block next to them, I cant remember what he called it!!)

Gee, I just love the internet! Many, many thanks to all those who have contributed their experiences to this thread, especially Steve for the invaluable photographs. I have just replaced 4 caps on a 3-yr-old Samsung for the princely sum of £1 and less than an hour of my time. I have deliberately opted for 16v 85deg as obviously Samsung have got it wrong with the original equipment. I will post an update if it all goes t*ts up. Off now to do the Watchdog bit - Power to the consumer!!

My Le 40R73Bd has just started clicking and taking about 15 minutes to switch on. Thought it was the cable box playing up but when the Virgin engineer arrived and spent an hour trying new boxes, new cables and connections etc without success he gave up and expressed his opinion that the TV was probably faulty. To back this up he came back that next day with another TV and everything worked perfectly.

Wasn't sure where to go but having googled the problem came across this site which seems to describe my fault to the tee. Guess it is time to take the back off and look for those dodgy capacitors

Many thanks

Replaced the three capacitors today but it still wont switch on(CLICK CLICK CLICK..arrrgh). It turned out to be the main pcb. I refitted my old pcb,(had an engineer change it when it was under warranty as it had a green line intermittently flash up on the right hand side) now it switches on okay. Have'nt seen the green line yet. But changing the capacitors is a very easy and cheap fix. One small tip though, if you have'nt got a solder suction tool, hold the top of the capacitor and let the board rest on its side. alternate heat between solder points and wiggle the capacitor out. make sure you get the + and - round the right way. Thanks for the advice steve!

Bought 6 Capacitors 1000uf 16 v on ebay for £1 not including postage, fitted them last night and low and behold the tv is working fine. Contacted watchdog like Steven Forrester has, the more people who do this the more chance we have in getting Samsung admiting they screwed up. Anyway cheers Steven F. for all the pics and advice that is posted on here

Hi All,

I'm glad to see everyone is managing to handle the fixes themselves, but we really need Samsung to take notice that we're not amused with their lack of respect for their customers.

Recently I went on the BBC Watchdog website and filled out an email telling them about this inherent power supply problem and the fact that Samsung won't acknowledge any reported problems. We all know they've had many many reports because we've all been on the phone to them and had the same reply.

What I would like you all to do, is to go along to the Watchdog site and do as I did and see if we can make Samsung own up to knowing about our problems. Watchdog are on a mission at the moment with company's like Samsung. Recently they brought the PS3 problem to light and so we need this going in the same direction and shaming Samsung.

Cheers and good luck with any future repairs.

Well, took the back off the TV and guess what, the 4 capacitors that are in the pics are bulging, so now it's just a case of getting some, which the local maplins only have 2 off

David Sanderson, September 2009
We've had the same problem with our Samsung LE40R73BD, called Samsung yesterday and they said they haven't had any reported problems with this TV, which i now know is rubish. Will try and replace the mentioned capacitors and will let everyone know what happens, watch this space.

Dave Sanderson, September 2009
woooow hmmm seems the talk whether it should be 10 or 16v is of no concern, i just replaced 4 1000uf 10v 105degrees with 4 1000uf 16v 105 and 85 degrees... as i see it when u raise the voltage on the capasitor it will never get too hot... these 10v has to be 105 because they are overworking hence the cap bulging... just my experience, lcd has been running now for a week with on and off a lot of times, iiiiim soooo happy to have done it myself and saved my most precious shrine in the living room!

jesper, September 2009
Has anyone got a link to which capacitors to buy? I have exactly the same fault, but have no electricity knowledge. Thought I would give it a go tho but cant find and capacitors on the maplin website that match the description you have all given. Thanks in advance

Fixed mine today total outlay £2.54 and a hour of my time

Comet and samsung you should hang your heads in shame!!!

i got 1000μF 85°C at 16V by mistake ,will make much difference if i use these ?

tsk, August 2009
Hi Thought I would update you all. Samsung as expected have denied all knowledge of this fault and feel its reasonable that I pay for repair. I advised them of all the forums about this problem, they dont care, but I made them log the call. I have went on to the retailer who is Mackro and quoted the sale of goods act...and will keep you updated. Took 20 clicks to come on today so looks like Im going to have to fix it. I think I will video the fault for proof before I do. Thanks for all your advice.

Lynda, August 2009
Oh nightmare. Mine has been doing this for 3 days. I have the reciept 2yr 3mth old. I am going to contact Samsung and the retailer and quote the Sale of Goods act 1979. I have also E-mailed watchdog and will E-mail Which. Im disgusted that Samsung can get away with this. Anyway in the meantime if it fails to come on I will have to DIY like you guys. Im so glad I found this forum (there are lots of others) I will keep you posted.
Has anyone managed to have Samsung/Retailer take responsibility??

Lynda, August 2009
Just completed the fix from this forum on my neibours 42 inch Plasma I upgraded the caps to 25v which is fine to go up on volts but not go down. Set up and running again A1 many thank to all

Les, August 2009
My 40 inch Samsung LCD TV had the same problem. It is just over two years old. Initially the problem manifested as slow start up with it clicking a few times. After a week it would not power up at all. I used the photos that Steve posted and opened the TV to see that the capacitors were bulged on the top. There were four capacitors that needed replacing. My neighbour did the soldering for me and tonight the TV is working again.

Thanks guys for your help.

Evan Moore, Western Australia, August 2009
P.S -I have also registered this to the Watchdog website and would suggest everyone does the same, as if they get enough complaints they will hopefully add some clout to the case.

Nik Hegarty, August 2009
I would like to offer thanks to this forum. I followed the advice replaced the capacitors and saved myself a fortune. I will be following this up with Samsung as I believe they have a fault which they should recognise. Once again thanks to all.

Nik Hegarty, August 2009
You all are stars!!!!, complete novice, very shaky hands doing the soldering but truly if we can do this anyone can! What a buzz when the TV sprang to life. Samsung denied all knowledge of problems, same as most of you, TV just over two years old! Do they do this just as the warranty runs out?, Samsung said it was my own fault that I did not get extended warranty!
God I love the internet!

Dee, July 2009
can somebody tell me where the pictures are that help you complete this job my samsung has now started clicking but pictures would definitely help me out thanks

rains_kars, July 2009
Thanks for this post,I did exactly what shan explained, how ever you need to be care full when you are keeping capicitors if you keep the wrong side(+ve and -ve) then entire thing goes wrong, other wise as stated it works perfect

once again i thank for the people who posted this and total expenditure for me is £2.20 and i saved £148.00

Sree, July 2009
Thanks for all the advice here. Just fixed the problem, took me an hour and a half, including putting the hooks back on the tv and back on the wall! All for £1.48

Nick H, July 2009
thanks a million everyone for giving me the information to repair my Samsung T.V LE40R73BD that would not switch on. i unscrewed the back panel of the TV. I removed the four blown capacitors from the main board situated in the middle right side of the T.V. They were mc812, mc817, mc811,mc809. i brought 4 new capacitors they were 63 pence each purchased from maplins. The capacitors were 16v 1000uf, i put them in the main board. If you cant do it youself just take the main board to any shop that does electrical repair work it should cost around £20.00. Now my tv is working properly and I am so happy i saved myself £150.00. Thanks a million.

I have just replaced 3 capacitors as per advice in this thread. Use Maplin 1000uf 16v. All seemed to work great - tv sprang into action. I was well chuffed - unfortunately less than a week later, TV now off again. Is it just he capacitors or is there something else I have missed? TV is Samsung LE40R73BDX

thanks in advance
JB

Thanks to everyone with the advice on this post. I swapped out 2 capacitors (2200uf, 10v) that were bulging on the main board of my TV. It is now as good as new. Total cost was about $30 (US) because I had to get a solder iron.

To those that are going to attempt this, pay careful attention to the numbers on the sides of the caps that are bulging. Replace them with EXACTLY the same size. If it says 1000uf, 10v - then replace it with 1000uf, 10v. I ended up getting the appropriate caps from a TV repair shop.

Thanks again for all the help.

JHS in US, July 2009
Thanks for all your help, changed 3 caps, and got a helpful uncle to solder them on and off. Just remember everyone, there are components on PCB that hold a charge even when turned off, so don't touch anything you don't have to! TV working perfectly now.

Got a quote for 90 plus pounds for repair before the guy even turns up. Booked a call out.
Good job i googled and found this site.
Cancelled engineer. Back is off tv.
Not soldered before but will learn tomorrow.
Espesically when its gonna save me silly money.
Will let you know how it goes after a stock up trick to maplins.

Arders, June 2009
I just want to thank Steve Forrrester, Terry M and everyone who has posted on this subject.

I had already handed my Samsung over to a TV repair guy who had quoted me a minimum of £90 to look at the problem and mentioned a potential final bill of around £200 when my wife found this site. We took the TV back, bought 4 capacitors from Maplin and, folowing the links to pictures provided by Steve we soldered the new bits on and it worked straight away.

It must have took a total of no more than an hour including going out and buying the £1.48 parts!!

To anyone else with this problem, do not hand over your hard earned cash without trying to sort it yourself, believe me you will benefit from it. I am a no hoper with DIY and found it easy to do.

Steve Forrester, you are a top man, I would never have thought about posting tips on a site like this but will do so now, you are owed a few beers!

J & R - Glasgow, May 2009
I changed 4 100uf 10v 105c capacitors for 1000uf 16v 105c on the PCB it worked for 30 seconds and then went off again, this time with no ticking. Any ideas...?

Carlos, May 2009
Hi, it is most probably capacitors in the power supply, I wrote a post here http://www.earthinfo.org/samsung-tv-makes-a-strange-clicking-sound/
which details how identify if this is the problem, and then how to change them yourself.

Chris Morris, May 2009
Fantastic advice - just made the repair myself for £16 including the cost of a new soldering iron.

Must have saved a fortune - thanks very much to all contributors.

Kev T, May 2009
Had the same problem with my samsung the last couple of weeks but after reading all the advice on this wonderful site I decided to have a go at the repair. I got all the gear from Maplins and got stuck in, by the way I had never soldered a thing before, and now my Sammy is back to its best. So its a big big thankyou to all the contributers on this thread.

Philip Baughan, May 2009
just fixed my tv, with 16v 1000uf capacitors, fantastic advice, came on straight away! was really nervous, lol and all for £5.Top man

John Brady, May 2009
I have the Samsung 40inch Le40r73bdx model can anyone please tell me exactly what capacitors need to be fitted, i know the ones currently are 10v, which are faulty. Thankyou

John Brady, May 2009
My just over 2 yr old Samsung lcd did the click on click off trick 1 week after a relative said her samsung was clicking on & off I googled the fault and thinking what have I got to lose (not going to pay silly hundreds of pounds for engineer when can buy new one NOT SAMSUNG for £400ish) , took the advice to open it up and look for blown or bloated capacitors in the top right hand corner of the PCB. Lo and behold there they were 4 bloated Capasitors all the same rating, I desoldered them ( bought the soldering iron, solder sucker and Solder from maplins about £25) they did not have the exact Caps i needed 10v 1000uf 105 deg in Maplins so went on the RS Components website and found them, ordered a pack of 5 £1.56 + P&P £7 something altogether and they were delivered the next day, that night I mounted and soldered them and with more trepidation than I care to admit Turned the TV on and it worked that was a week ago & still going strong, sister in law still waiting for an engineer to come to look at hers, she has an extended waranty ( cost silly £ ) she has tried the holding buttons on remote etc.etc. can't see how this is going to help if Capacitors are blown. By the way I have a little experience of soldering but if you are confident careful not to get solder all over the PCB (printed circuit board) and your eyesight is pretty good you should be able to carry out this repair. N.B. DO REMOVE THE MAINS LEAD BEFORE YOU TAKE THE BACK OFF YOUR TV.
THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO TAKE THE TIME TO POST USEFUL INFO ON THIS SITE, BIG KISSES

Batty, May 2009
Thank you very much i just bought 4 capacitors from malpin replaced the old ones and it is working right now, saved me atleast £200.

Tobi, April 2009
This is a big thank you for Steve Forrester and other helpful posters.

Our 25 month old Samsung started taking longer and longer to come on - just clicking.

Then today - nothing. Looked on the internet, found this site and followed your advice. The photos were especially helpful.

We are total novices and along with the help of a nice man at Maplins who confirmed what you said, our TV is working again at a total cost of £22 including a soldering iron and a desolder pump (this wasn't that useful by the way, we just got the capacitors out without it).

Thank you again Sue and Doug

Sue, April 2009
Thank you very much for the help given. My 40" Samsung LCD had the same fault after owning it for 2 years.

Did exactly as stated below and changed two capacitors and it is now working fine. Didnt own a sodering iron so bought one - all fixed for £15. Thought the capacitors were £1.20 from Maplins.

Thanks again

Nick, April 2009
To terry m electrical engineer. Sorry mate I forgot to thank you the most. Well done and cheers for sorting this problem out for many of us.

Rana, April 2009
Thanks everyone on this site. I just googled the same problem I was having with my samsung 40inch and decided to check out the caps. And yes indeed it was the caps you mentioned steve. I am ever so grateful for the pics as well. Took me 45 mins but well worth it. I am certain the tv companies are putting in components that are likely to go just after the warranty period to make more money.

Rana, April 2009
thanks everyone changed four capacitors and working great saved a packet

michael, April 2009
DnZ: Why have you come on a site called "How To Mend It", when you have no intention of mending your faulty TV yourself? Instead you're saying we should be paying £35 to someone to diagnose a fault we know is there and have taken the initiative to MEND IT ourselves!!

I speak only for myself, but I bet not many people that frequent this page would gives a damn about paying what totals £235 so Samsung eventually acknowledge this as a KNOWN FAULT!

Anyway, I know mines fixed, it cost me £1.50 and an hour of my life. I bet you've paid more than that on phone calls to your supplier and Samsung and still your set is broke.

We should re-name the site to "How_To_Make_A_Manufacturer_Liable_Even_After_The_WarrantyDOTcom".

To all that have appreciated the repair tips I've given "THANK YOU".

Cheers all

Steven Forrester, April 2009
-oh! forgot to mention... mine's an LE40R74

DnZ, April 2009
This IS NOT a *known fault* - Samsung will deny any knowledge of it.
Samsung get their known faults from head office examining trends in fault repairs gathered from authorised repairers. so by all you people not paying £35 for someone to just look at it, and then another £200 for a repair this information never gets logged!!
Like you I have the same issue just arisen after 2yrs and 3 months of happy viewing.
I have gone back to the shop I purchased from as they are responsible under the "Sale of goods act 1979" -(even though it only has 1 year warranty they are still liable) they are calling tomorrow to tell me what they are going to do about it - Hopefully if enough people did this then it would annoy the shops so much that they will stop selling the Samsung TV's and then Samsung would have to look into why no-one will sell or buy their TV's anymore!

DnZ, April 2009
Hi KD

Unfortunately, I really don't know anything about your model of TV. You would have to remove the board completely from the TV to gain access to the solder side. If you look carefully at my Samsung2.jpg, you'll notice that the capacitors have a line down one side with a negative sign on and on the circuit board, under the capacitors there's a circle with a thicker line under the stripe of the capcitor, that is the negative on the board. Just print my picture out and follow that for reference.

Please remember, I have no knowledge of your TV and can't recommend you having a go yourself without really knowing a little of what you're doing.

Steven Forrester, March 2009
Hello to all.
So I just want to say thank you to all of you who contributed towards this discussion. I had the same problem (on a SamsungLE40R73) and managed to fix it by following all your advice. I ain't very good at DIY neither but the alternatives were too expensive to consider. Anyway, once again, thanks!

Tim in Toulon, March 2009
Hey steve and all others,

Thanks for the helpful information. But I am in desperate need of some help on the same issue. I had the same issue in my Samsung, but 32" one (LE32R88BD). I assumed the solution would be same. So bought the capacitors mentioned by you. But when I opened the back of my TV, the board looked quite a bit different. The capacitors were placed differently and didn't seem damaged to naked eye. But I am thinking of replacing them anyways. However these capacitors are of different voltage and uF. There is one 25V 470uF, one 25V 820uF, three 35V 1000uF and one 25V 1000uF. There are four more small capacitors, but i am leaving hem out. Now what I purchased was four 16V 1000uF. Can I use them to replace the above ones or should I buy new ones matching the above descriptions?

2. Would I have to take out the board and solder these from behind? I have done some soldering at school level, so I think I can manage. For taking out the old capacitors, is just a soldering iron enough (read there is somthing called solder suction as well)?

3. Do I have to take care of +ve and -ve while fixing the new capacitors? It wasn't obvious to me on how to figure out the +ve and -ve on the new capacitors I purchased.

Sorry for these basic questions. But your help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Regards
KD

Thanks Phil, nice to know I've helped mate. I love sites like this, where people actually help each other.

Good luck to anyone trying this for themselves. Don't give your hard earned money to some Samsung TV repair centre that know of this fault. If I can do it, anyone can!!

Thanks so much you guys especially steven forrester. My samsung 40" just clicked away on switch on. After reading the replies here, I decided to give it a go, after removing the back panel i noticed the same 3 capacitors were bowed at the top and distorted, went to maplins and purchaced the replacements, the caps taken out from the pcb were marked 10V the replacements were 16V i was a bit perturbed with this, but went ahead anyway. Result fantastic the tv works fine. You have saved me a shed load of dosh and it felt good to repair it myself. The downside was my wife came to maplins with me and decided to visit other shops in the area and decided to eat in what we have saved . ow well lesson learned, dont take the "mrs"

phil, March 2009
how did you guess? lol
carly samsung ceo

carly, February 2009
Thanks a million for the how to - i've just fixed my friend's 40" Samsung, he was over the moon no to have to pay the £120 for a new board!

Cheers

Rob :)

Rob Keates, February 2009
Wow! I thought I was facing a unique error. But seems to be the same. Only in my case, my TV never gave any problem in starting. And suddenly this sunday morning, it stopped coming on. It comes on after half an hour of struggling, but with no picture/sound. Seems like the same error to me. Samsung refused to help. The repair center is asking for 80 pounds just to send the engineer! I am sure they would suck out much more. What's the point of spending 200 odd on an old TV? Has anyone tried this sale of goods act thing? Otherwise, I might try the changing parts bit...

And Samsung seems to be the worst LCD TV possible going by this..

KD, February 2009
how do you know if the caps have been damaged are the crosses on top more raised,Samsung was no help at all to me actually made me feel quite stupid in asking about where i can get a repair man they recomend. Also deniedany other complaints like mine in the TV.

Little H, February 2009
What is going on with these TVs mine is just under 2 years old and has just started to click a few days ago, now it wont click itself even on. Any advice

Lolly, February 2009
Stuart,
When you say it is a known fault, do you mean Samsung have acknowledged this?
If this is the case then i'm back up to the store i bought mine from as if i can prove it is a 'fault' then they will pay for the repair. You just gotta quote the 'sale of goods act' at them.
My bro bought same tv exactly 1 month after me and exactly 1 month after mine broke, so did his!! Somehow i don't think it's a co-incidence!

sara, February 2009
Just in case anyone wants to have a go themselves, it was really easy.

After removing the back of the TV the board in question is bang in the middle.

Remove the screws and the cables, making note which goes where, I actually took a photo so not to put them wrong.

Here's a photo of the board with the suspect Caps highlighted: http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr10/StockportSteve/Samsung1.jpg

Here's a close-up of the three caps I replaced. On the board they were numbered CM811, CM812 & CM817: http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr10/StockportSteve/Samsung2.jpg

I used 16V 1000uF from Maplin which cost 50p each.

The whole job from start to finish took 30 minutes, with a saving of over £120!! Carly, I may be a tight git, but I'm £120 better off for 30 minutes "educational" work, lol ;-)

Hope this helps out.

Steven Forrester - Stockport, February 2009
carly must work for Samsung and secretly planted faulty parts on the boards to earn the company some extra cash, lol!!

Steven Forrester, February 2009
you tight gits

carly, February 2009
Andy - Liverpool is there anyway you could post a picture of which caps need replacing? Or is it that obvious because of damage to them which they are? I certainly don't want to pay £120+ to get a new board but also don't want to take the back off the TV and sit there scratching my head for which ones to replace. Cheers Steve

Steve Forrester - Stockport, February 2009
Same fault on my LE40R7BDX. Samsung no help at all and very snotty.."it's not a common fault sir.." Gutted until I read this. Took back off TV, saw 3 dodgy Caps. Could only get 2 x 25v 1000uf from Maplins (10v in TV). Replaced the worst looking Caps and it worked. Fantastic. Cost 75p and new soldering iron I needed anyway.

Andy - Liverpool, February 2009
Surely if this is a known common fault with this specific TV then Samsung should repair these at a discounted rate. Mine started playing up about 3 weeks ago and is getting worse.

@ terry m electrical engineer: Would it be possible for you to ring the problem caps on the picture of the PCB board thats on one of the posts so we know which ones give the problems. I'd prefer to try a DIY on my board than pay £122 for a board that's onlu got a £1.50 fault on it.

Cheers
Steve

Steve Forrester, February 2009
ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM - TRY SAMSUNG DIRECT FOR A NEW PCB. YOU CAN FIT IT YOURSELF - 2 OR 3 MULTICLIPS ON THE PCB AN EARTH AND 4 SCREWS TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE BOARD.

Stuart - IT HAPPENED TO ME., February 2009
same thing happened to me keep clicking away but would not turn. took craigs adviced and ordered the pcb from his link cost £126 10 mins to fix and tv as good as new,
thanks again craig!!!!!

stuart, January 2009
Mines is the same just stopped coming on altogether!
Quoted over £200 to repair. I paid £1000 thought it would last years!!

Tracy, January 2009
i had same problem found three faulty capacitors on power board replaced caps working fine now. look for deformed caps they are 1,000 micro farrads make shure you get 105 deg c and voltage of 16v bought them from maplins for the large sum of £1-48 for four you will need good soldering skills but if you can solder go for it beats £126-00 for new psu, took me about an hour best of luck.

terry m electrical engineer, January 2009
I had the same problem with the TV not switching on straight away, it was taking longer and longer each time until it stopped coming on all together - but I didn't have any problems with the HDMI input. I bought a new power supply PCB and that fixed the problem.

This is a link to the board I bought:

http://www.chsinteractive.co.uk/electrical-components/misc/le40r73bdxxeu-pcb-psu-samsung-bn44-00134a-rev1-5-3925310002ad.htm

£120 - which is just £5 more then I would have had to pay to diagnose the problem through a local repair company. It was also very easy to fit.

Craig, December 2008
Hi ya, I'm having the same problem. I've gone into the engineers menu, done a reset but it still clicks away. I leave it clicking for 5 mnutes and it comes on. My nearest repair center want £85+VAT just to diagnose it! I've had my LE40R73BD for 2 years exactly. I would of expected it to last a little long for how much I paid at the time.

Any news on what part is the cause would be great because everything else is work ok with it. Would be a shame just to throw it out.

Tim, December 2008
Yep, I have an LE40R7 which has just started doing the same thing.

John, have you got any news from your repair man yet?? - I can feel my wallet shrinking!!!!!!!!

Alan, December 2008
snap mine is the same any answers would be good

adam, December 2008
Snap i have the same model and mine is 13 months old exactly the same fault tv repair man coming out today ill let you know fault and cost later
