I had the same prob, the auto bleed valve had seized and the air build up caused the overheats. Replace the Overheat sensor and the auto bleed valve. (They really are poor quality!) (and the expansion vessel for good measure)
Refil and check the system. While you have it in bits, remove and clean the DHW and CH sensors for gunge (especially the DHW as the water companies seem to have been mixing what I get, normaly a soft water area - we now get lime. United Utilities) The law is - don't touch the gas. Water you can do what you want. It's a good idea to get a CORGI registered plumber to check it all out after. Paying a few quid to have the peace of mind is better than having no house when it all goes wrong. However, not all CORGI registered plumbers are good at fault finding inside boilers, it really pains me to have to go and follow some cowboy who changes this and that without actually knowing what they are doing and they call themselves registered! Perhaps that's why I drive a van and not an X5.
Good luck, Honest Joe

Don't fix it, in accordance with Gas Saftey(Installation and use 1998) it is a law that a competent person should deal with this. Failure to follow this will lead to prosecution. With your problem, you have to call a service engineer to deal with it. Best call 08457 256 206 and an arrangement wil be made for an engineer to call you asap.
