Problems recieveing faxes from brother FAX 28-20?

Our machine is reading recieving but although machine is set to fax only it keep ringing the phone line rather than printing out the faxes.

No error message is displayed and everything else has been checked ie,phone line, paper full and toner full.

Any ideas as I can`t find anything in the user guide.

Thanks

- You machine displays 'Receiving' and then what happens?

- Can you program it to print a RX/TX report at the end of each fax?
I believe the option is 'On Send Only' or 'Always'

- Check how many rings it takes for it to answer.
It could be the other machine 'times-out' as yours starts the receiving process?

- Try to receive the fax manually.
When the phone rings, lift the receiver and listen. If you hear the typical 'chirping' just press the 'Start' key and hang up.

If that does not work, the telephone board on your machine may be defective.

- Did you try SENDING a fax?

All fax machines have an 'Auto' for 'Automatic Reception' and a 'Manual Reception' setting.

If your machine is set to 'Manual' answer, the phone can ring all day, and unless you pick up the receiver and press 'Start' nothing will happen.

Check also how many rings it's set for before it answers.

I'm assuming the paper is loaded and you can make a copy. :)
Yes, I know you said it, "paper full and toner full." and it rings so it's connected.
Please make a copy just for fun. Only then you know it works for sure.

When the phone rings, lift the receiver and listen. If you hear the typical 'chirping' just press the 'Start' key and hang up.
