No sound from my compaq?

Have tried all I know in the system setting and still cannot get my sound back.

I have a Compaq with Microsoft Windows XP 2002 version
running on Pentium 4 , 2.8GHz 342 MB RAM

possibly the on board sound chip has blown, just plug in a pci slot sound card, load the drivers.... job done
