Broken bathroom ceiling switch?

Our bathroom light switch made an odd sound as I went to pull the cord, and now doesn't work (cord still attached but does nothing when pulled). How can we fix it?

Buy a new switch ( B+Q, etc). Switch off the elecric. Undo the cover on the old switch. Disconnect the wiring and unscrew the old fitting from the ceiling. Screw the new fitting to the ceiling and reconnect the wiring. Fit the cover to the new switch and turn on the elecric. Only attempt this if you feel competent, otherwise get an electrician in.

Thanks T. We're inclined to try to fix it ourselves, once the electrics are turned off, of course. I guess we should have a closer inspection of the wiring and see if a switch from a store can be easily fitted.

You need to replace it. As it is in the bathroom, I suggest that you get an electrician to do it.
