When coming out of Fast Forward mode into Play mode, the PVR oftens starts from the beginning of the recording again rather than continuing from where the Play button was pressed. Video playback also often freezes for about 1 second leaving the audio running ok. Does this mean it needs a software update and if so, is this downloaded and installed automatically.

The FF problem is a known bug with the DTI6300 software which topup tv are looking to fix. It was supposed to be fixed in the 3.31 release but that was withdrawn due to a major bug with subscription services. A new version is expected any time now (Jan '09) but Topup never commit to when updates will be release. Your box will automatically download it when topup release it.
