For the past week, the shower diverter has become very hard to push in (to divert the water to the shower head). Also, it is quite hard to pull out, after taking a shower. This valve used to freely push in and pull out, but now it seems as if there is a tight rubber washer on the inside, making it difficult to work it.

Turn off the water to the tap. Dismantle the diverter valve. Clean off any build up of scale, lubricate with silicon grease and put it back together again. Remember to turn the water back on again and hopefully it should be as good as new.
