ceiling light making a humming noise?

I have fitted a 6 halogen bulb, ceiling light and when it is on there is a humming noise from the ceiling light fitting.

Any thoughts as to why this might be and how to stop it?

If they are low voltage lamps there will be a transformer in the fitting, which could well be what is humming.
