Foot Pedal overheats and smokes?

Please can you help me, this is the second pedal I've had and within minutes of starting to use, it starts to smoke, I suspect its an old design, can you advise an up to date one that is compatible, the part no. of the pedal is: 103435 009. And the sewing machine is Capri 141.

A far better solution is to replace the capacitor with a working one. Most of these are 50+ years old, and have done their time.

shows that its a 1 microfarad cap with various specifications. Compare photos with yours before starting.

Just stumbled across this. Taken the suppressor out and now machine works fine.

Great advice. I had the same problem. I snipped out the little oblong suppressor which smelled of smoke and the pedal works as normal now!!!

Dorothy found this posting when she had the same problem, smoke coming out of the foot control. Because I found two suppressors (a resistance and a capacitor) I emailed Ken, who was brilliantly helpful - and we now have a working pedal control and sewing machine again. A big thankyou to Ken

Thanks to Drivewithken as removing the suppressor has worked for my wife's machine

Hello Grizzelda,
Your machine is made by Singer and a common fault is for the suppressor in the foot control to blow, if you undo the foot control you will see the suppressor, it looks like a fuse, take it out and throw it away because you don't need it these days, any problems email me below.
