BAXI WENTWORTH DELUXE FIRE WILL NOT IGNITE?

I've had a BAXI wentworth deluxe fire that only gets used during the winter and rarely. I went through a stage of having to press the on switch followed by the off and on again to ignite the gas fire but when i went to use the fire for the first time in 6 months i hear a click but no ignition.
I had a Gas engineer pop round but as i don't have the manual he had a look but said it could be a problem with a circuit board or something electronic but could not investigate further without the manual. I have been unsuccessful in getting hold of a manual and was looking at my options. Would appreciate any advise!

I had the same problem and got a heating engineer yesterday. He tested the transformer and said it needed replaced. Unfortunately Baxi don't make these anymore he said so I'm having to trawl the net to see if I can find one..

had and still got same fire, with same problem. first take out coals, position on old newspaper so as to put back in same order. take out front coals and remove metal suround at front. if youv,e not already done this, there will appear to be al ot of soot, this is what is burnt off the coals. simply use your hoover and clean the soot out ,be careful around the ignitor.regarding the click on ignititon try unpluging the transformer at the wall socket for about ten mins then plug in switch on and try lighting again this works for me keep trying it will wok i`ve had same prob, for 3yrs

Try removing all the coal then removing any loose carbon which has fallen on the igniter electrode. Carefully replace the coal before trying to ignite.
