desktop virus?

I think I received a virus from Limewire. I can get to my desktop but the virus is really strong. It changed my desktop image to "download antivirus software", which is mere bs. I have tried everything and cannot fix it. I would even consider wiping everything off my cpu just to get rid of it

It sounds like the "Internet Antivirus Pro" malware. (It does help if you say EXACTLY what the problem is.)

You need to disable it from starting by using Autoruns or similar. Having done that: reboot, then, having ensured that your Ant-Virus and Anti-Spyware is up to date, run that on your machine.

Try doing system restore back to the day before the virus came in . This sometimes works but not always and depends upon how seriuosly the virus has infilitrated the registry. After you have done it... get rid of limewire, its the pitz, you may as well leave your front door open for the burglars !!
