How to reattach antique marble top of table to wooden carved base?

How can I reattach antique marble top to wooden carved base, or should I take to a restoration place? In moving the table, the top slid off (and was caught!) The glue may have given out long ago. However, I am not sure it was ever glued, and may have just rested on the table. It a very heavy top, about the size of an end table. It was origianally used in a kitchen for candy making, and probably other kitchen uses.

You would need to Use a construction adhesive.. Normally a steel braket is attached to the marble top via adhesive and then the bottom is screwed to the braket. This holds the table top in position. I Use Mega Poxy (3min cure time) or Tennax which is a two part compound used for filling and repair Marble and granite. Color depends on color of table top and also can be purchased transparent.
