Fixing FJ 1093?

My zanussi washing machine was on it's usual K programme the other night (30 degree wash) and I could smell something was wrong. The glass was so hot to touch and the washing when I finally moved it on to the spin cycle had clearly been 'boil washed'.

Since then all other programmes have washed on a cold wash, Its as if the thermostat went mad and then burnt the heater out (my guess only)..any ideas what I should be looking at?

It's a great machine (been trouble free since May 1994!)

could be a timer fault or a thermostat fault.element has probably burnt out and will need replacing.elements and stats are not that expensive but a timer is.if you get someone in to do it it will be approx half the cost of a new basic machine.time to make your mind up as its getting on in years and you could fix this fault and be faced with another a few months later because of its age!
