My computer will not recognise my DVD burner anymore!?

It will play DVD's and CD's but when I try to write to disc it will not do it?

Is it listed correctly in device manager?
Try removing the unit and deleting it from device manager. Uninstall all the software that came with it, then do a reboot.
Switch off and refit unit. Power back on and restart, the system should now find the unit as new hardware. Complete the install process and install any software that came with it.
Good luck!!

Thanks for your response Terry. I have a Philips DVDR1640P and have tried re-installing the software, to no avail. I seem to have tried everything I know and am hoping for a shot of inspiration from someone. Thanks once again mate.

Did you try re-installing software ?
Some inexpensive burners loose the capacity to burn after extensive use. Clean/ Check/ Re-install.
