Sony TV: No picture, audio works, red stanby light blinks?

I have a Sony Trinitron kv35s26 (made August 1997) and recently the picture went out. When the TV is powered on, I have audio, no video, and the red standby light located on the front of the TV blinks on & off. I can change channels and the audio changes.

Have you heard of this problem before? I’m pretty handy with a multi-meter if there are test points to check to determine the problem. Do you know where I can get a schematic of the TV?

Thanks, Jim

I have done extensive research on this. Most likely it is a bad solder connection on the PC board on the yoke or in the flyback section. Remove the back and tap around with a non-conductive stick while watching the screen in a mirror. The problem is called a "1K problem" -- a safety feature that prevents the CRT from turning on without the right voltages. You can also try to CAREFULLY adjust the screen control at the flyback (NOT the focus control).

hi, the same thing happened to mine last night! I called the Sony repair number. I was told this means the switch or cable is faulty. DOes this help you? they want to charge me £60 for the callout plus parts, sounds too expensive!
