Fuse blows shortly after switching on Panasonic DMR-E55?

Within about two minutes of switching on our Panasonic DMR-E55 the fuse blows. It works normally during those minutes. It is just over a year old, and has been used little, but left on standby.

Most common failure is the IC0001 part number STRG6353, this can cause immediate power failure, or the "SELF CHECK" syndrome followed by power failure.
Charles Hyde & Sons (chs.co.uk) do an excellent upgrade kit for these machines.
I just repaired my own with the upgrade kit from them.
well worth the small outlay.

Put the replacement regulator on a better heatsink. Use heatsink compound to ensure better heat dissipation. Keep it cool enough and it will not give further trouble

I have a similar problem with mine, the Voltage regulator chip has gone "bang" on the PSU board, it's burnt brown on the PCB. The unit works for a bit, then resets itself due to power failure.

The offending component is a STRG6353 - SANKEN I.C. VOLTAGE REGULATOR. If I manage to find a replacement or similar component I might repair it, but what is to stop it happening again in 18 months time.

The whole Panasonic Diga series is plagued with problems!!
