if i leave it on constant or even timed the pilot sometimes keeps going off leaving me with no heating. could it be the electronic ignition malfunctioning?
its had numerous thermocouples but dont think its ever had a replacement ignition. its serviced and repaired by british gas but i cant see how they have overlooked this.
If its had thermocouples fitted then it cant be the fan assisted model.I agree with the first post in that it is likely to be the overheat stat or gasvalve. As for British Gas,do me a favour they dont strip them down anymore like we used to,they just bung in the old performance tester probe and thats it.Have you noticed their adverts state a safety check now and not a service.

where would the overheat stat be situated?

If it has electronic ignition, it does not have a pilot. thats the point of electronic ignition, you do not need to burn gas by having a pilot on. If on the other hand, it does not fire up, when reqd. See above

its either a faulty gas valve or more likely a faulty overheat stat
