Will liquid nails attach a metal letterbox flap to a brick letter/box?

The cement has come out (or maybe shrunk from the hot weather) of my brick letterbox where the metal lugs at the top of the metal letterbox flap was held in.

If I clean any residue cement away from the lug area, could I use liquid nails to secure the metal letterbox flap?
Despite being 70, I can usually fix most things around my house, and have a good collection of high quality tools.
