How do we get into the Matag (purchased 2001) washing machine. When it agitates and spins, it makes a squelching noise, indicating maybe there is something inside the drum or the belt needs to be replaced. Is there a way to take off the front panel?

I don't know how yours works, I have a Frigidaire; but I will tell you how I just took off mine. There are two screws on the back top of the machine. Unscrew them and take off the plates. This will let you lift the top of the machine. You can see the two connectors in front. I took a screwdriver and popped the one out and the other came right with it. There are two screws at the bottom of the front panel. Unscrew them and have someone hold the top of the panel so it doesn't fall and hit you. That will give you access to pretty much whatever you need. Hope it works for you.
