New Lighting fixture?

We have an older lighting fixture that has a dimmer. We purchased a new light fixture, installed it with standard light bulbs, but when we turned it on, se heard a soft "pop" and nothing else. We replaced the bulbs and tried it again, nothing.

Put a guage on the dimmer and see if you still have power there. Not enough info in your question so, Was you old fixture a line voltage or low voltage? There may be a compatibility issue there. Did the new fixture have a lot more wattage than your old one? The dimmer may not have been rated for any extra wattage. The last problem may have been in the wiring of your new fixture to the wiring to your dimmer.
