Any idea of the possible cause of my zanussi washer dryer filling with water when switched off?machine is approx 5 years old and is model wds1183w 1050rpm

sounds like your inlet valve is fulty, this is can be replaced. where your water hose connects to the back of the machine there is an inlet valve that should only let water in when asked by the w/m. It is easily removed, MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS SWITCHED OFF AND UNPLUGED make a diagram so that you know where the wires connect, remove and replace with a new one, this should solve the problem
