Try running Disk Defrag, and Scan Disk, it might help abit but if you have a lot of programs that are crap on there then i would suggest a reinstall, but only as a last option.

more memory would help, but also you could check what you hav running at start up. When the system has booted up click on start, then run, then type in msconfig. have a look through the startup items for any offenders running at startup only deselect non windows components, like obvious program files
