Can you still buy back boilers?

My baxi back boiler is on its last legs and i wondered if you can still buy a modern new back boiler to replace it, as i think this would be cheaper than a combi because of all the extra work required to plumb it in ?????

totaly agree with tony new combies have so many cut out devices fitted it has just taken me two months to find a fault on aglowworm as the over heat stat kept tripping the system, finally located fault on pump as it was slowly ceaseing up,when priceing a replacement pump head quoted £120 and told it is nolonger poss to buy a bog standard head to replace old one as boiler manufactures has twiged onto this and now make pump impellors diffrent size so you have to buy there new expensive replacement parts

yep , tony is correct .

To put in a new BBU you have to score on a points system to definately rule out a condensing option . Yes you can still buy them but i dont know if u need high score to proceed .

Back boilers may not be as efficient as the newer combi/condensing boilers but they are far less bother. All they ever need is a service and a thermocouple from time to time.Look at the threads on here and see how many people are reporting faults to combi/condensing boilers that will cost a small fortune to put right.Stick with your old back boiler till it totally packs in and do yourself a favour.I am Ex British Gas and i know what i am talking about.

ah, get shot of it anyway , they sh*t. You would need to fit a condensing appliance so nope. baxi duotec on offer for 765 ish for 28kw from memory, cracking a rated boiler. average cost round here for above fitted without complications or excessive runs, removal of cyl, tanks etc approx 1600 thats a n/east approx :-) all installs can vary massively depending on location of elecs, gas, drainage etc
