Sony RDR-HXD860 faulty firmware power off cycle?

This is the same problem that I saw on a previous posting, but I could not see the answer. It's my Sony RDR-HXD860. When you turn it on, it powers up, goes through its cycle and powers off - how can I reset it if it won't stay on? It was an expensive piece of kit and had loads of good features but now it just gathers dust. Sony don't appear to be interested. How long do I leave it plugged in for the OTA firmware to over-ride the faulty one? I would be really grateful if any of you technical people could help please.

I've got the same problem with my 860. I followed the instructions to hold eject + play down to get the "S" on the display, but can't get any further. How do you clear the history ? and how do you do a DTT factory reset ? There is nothing displayed on my TV in terms of a menu to go through.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks

I can support the previous contribution about clearing this problem. Get to the Service menu by pressing the play and eject buttons. Clear the history. Then use DTT reset. This cleared my machine and stopped it constantly re-setting itself. Which appears to have originated from a Series Record to the Hard Drive - Horrid Henry. And I'll be talking to my daughter about this.

I should have said when I reset the machine when in the service menu I used the DTT factory reset option. Good luck.

Hi all, mine did the same, put in a series record and it just switched itself off, then on and so on until I pulled the power out. Looked around the web and the solution is to access the service menu. This is done by holding either both the eject and play button when powering up. I tried a couple of times before managing to get into it, digital display showed an S. I cleared the error history and rest the machine, turned it off and then on. It looks to be working and have also tried some series records, and still looks to be behaving. Only time will tell. Good luck

I have just managed to get mine working - don't know how long for though. I held the power button for more than 10 seconds until the unit reset then waited until it either powered down again or stuck on WELCOME then I repeated this several times, checking if it would power up properly with the remote between resets. It eventually came on! I then went into SYSTEM MENU/SETUP/TECHNICAL INFORMATION and set the Digital Software Update to OFF which I saw suggested elsewhere, and at the moment it is working fine.

Same thing is happening with my HXD860 which is only 14 months old! Sometimes it will also just display WELCOME with a loud fan noise. I then have to hold the power button down for 10 secs to reset it, after which it may come on and power off again, or it may just stick on WELCOME again.
It started happening after the digital switch over in my area (Beacon Hill transmitter Devon UK). I'm convinced it is related, as my Thomson box is doing strange things too.

Hi, This has just happened to mine as well. I turned my off for a week whilst on holiday, but it carries on doing the same thing. Any ideas would be appreciated.
