fitting a double dimmer?

i've just got a new double dimmer to replace a double switch, once i removed the old switch i noticed i had four red wires inside any advice on how to wire it up as the instructions with it are not worth the paper thier written on. had it working once but was making a nasty noise so took it off again untill i find out the correct way of doing it.

First of all I am not pleased about the "nasty noise" is this a cheapo unit? are you trying to dim a few lights at once? the dimmer may not be up to it check its' current rating.
the wires will be into the old switch that was always there in a particular pattern mark the ones at the top with a bit of tape, ideally brown, then put them into the A or 1 terminals on either side of the dimmer. The other wires should go into the B termini If you are still in difficulties get a qualified electrician in to sort it out
