The effluent returns bit by bit and can take flushing many time to clear the pan .
Is there a filter or something I can do to clean it

1, Try lifting the lid with the power off and checking that the macerator cage is clear of debris.
and clean out the box and try it again.

2, operate the machine with discharge into a bucket or aqua vac to see if it's flushing and pumping properly, if it is its the pipe work.

3, If the machine functions correctly and pumps away then look to the WC cistern and change the flush.

is it a saniflo? if so you have a cutting blade interneally which could be jammed and you have a pump to transit the products away from the unit , you should have a non-return valve in the outlet line which stop products coming back down the line, you should be able to disconnect the unit and flush out with hose in your garden above a drain....if all fails certain plumbers like myself are experts in this field and will gladly strip apart unit and repair as nessecary, be careful new ones can be expensive depending on what model you have.
