My boiler will go on when the control gas button is pressed in when ingniting the pilot light, but when it is released the pilot light goes off and will not light independantly of the gas control button . Is there any way I can fix this without having get an engineer?

Is the pilot light well established and covering the thermocoupler properly, if not you need a gas man to clear it out, check instructions to see if your boiler has a over heat stat with a manual reset button if it is ok you could possibley change the thermocoupler as long as you dont break any seals or it could be the gas valve that is faulty

you will need a gas registered fitter the problem is the thermoucouple as you will need to work on the main gas valve do not attemt it yourself it should cost in the region of nintey pounds to repair in total (new thermoucouple cost ten pounds)
