How can I reduce the level of water pressure?

I have a Vokera 20/80 Flowmatic combi. boiler. The pressure gauge drops frequently and when I refilled it last, I accidently let it go too high - to nearly 3.0!
I've switched it off completely for the moment as I'm scared to switch it back on. Can I reduce the level myself or do I need to call out an engineer and pay loads of money?

Panic ye not...you can reduce the boiler pressure by bleeding water out from the radiator bleed valves, but it takes a little while. Mind you, boilers have a pressure relief valve that automatically opens if the pressure is too high - so you are probably panicking about nothing.
