what is the best primer and undercoat to use when painting white gloss paint over a dark wood varnished door

First sand off varnish to give the primer a good key or the finished surface will chip easy. Any good quality primer x 2 coats,may be three being a dark colour Undercoat x 2 coats and top coat to finish. Check when undercoats have dried there is no dark colour 'bleed through' Ghost dark colour, if so apply a further undercoat until 'Ghosting' disappears.
