sounds like you need to update your drivers, if its a soundcard ie: soundblaster find out the type of soundcard you have by rightclicking on my computer,go to properties, device manager,then a list will show up,look for sound video and game controllers. If none is listed then you need the drivers, same as if theres no soundcard in pc and your using onboard sound. you need to know your motherboard type, there should be a name and motherboard type printed on your motherboard, google the motherboard type and sound drivers, go to motherboards website and download and install the sound drivers, this should help you.
