why are my lights on when the swicth is off?

i have just replaced the wall lights in my lounge however when i turned the mains back on they came on and the switch has no effect?, i have put 2 other sets up in the room and they are fine! the red wire is live the switch has no effect and i have fitted them as it says on the box?

It may be that some of the old wall lights were operated by a remote, separate switch on the wall but others (the ones you're unable to turn off) had their own on off switches mounted on the lamps themselves - and that your new badly behaving lamps do not have their own on/off switches.

Key question - How did you control the old wall lights - the ones that are playing up - before you removed them?
