my vcr plays most tapes but all the music/talking in the movie sounds funny?

when i play a tape the music and talking have a wavering high pitched quality to them
and some tapes have lines through them the entire time

my vcr plays all my tapes except one tape, and the sound is present for like 2 seconds with lines through it and fuzzy sounds then all sound is completely gone...how do i fix this or is this permanent damage? it is a dance recital tape form 1996

try adjusting the tracking this is usually done on the remote control..that should get rid of the lines and help sort out the sound probs..if not the drive belts inside the vcr may need replacing
