Sony bravia lcd television fault. Vertical stripes on screen?

My lcd screen has a series of very narrow vertical multi-coloured stripes. The sound is ok. This screen fault occurs irrespective of input source eg AV1, AV2 etc.

The TV is 32" Sony Bravia LCD.

My Sony Bravia 32 inch LCD TV developed the same fault after only 2 years and 8 months. It cost £799.99 so I contacted Sony for help in paying for a repair after having no luck with a free repair from the retailer (Comet). They replied that they MAY provide some assistance with the repair if I obtained a fault report from one of their accredited service agents. As this would have cost me £105 and as Sony would make no concrete commitment of financial aid I have reluctantly binned the TV and bought a new Samsung from John Lewis. If I had known about this fault I would not have bought the Sony TV in the first place - how about you ?

I have a Sony Bravia that has developed these faults and have done some research.

All major purchases are covered in Australia by a statutory warranty that apply irrespective of manufacturers warranties. All retailers should be supplying goods of merchantable quality. If not they are legally obliged to repair, refund or replace. Information available here:

This seems to be a common fault from SONY on the 32 screens.

Had the same fault with the television turning itself off for no reason, can do this about 5 times a day. But no lines as yet. Will do it if set just turned on, or been on four a few hours.

This is a manufacturing Fault that is happening to a lot of Bravia owners. The fault begins with the TV turning off for no reason, then the stripes.

There are a lot of victims and we have rights under the "Sale of Goods Act"

Hi Jo, this seems to be a common fault but unless your TV is still under guarantee, you may have problems getting anyone to accept responsibility and compensation.

I suspect your TV (prior to the panel failure) would randomly switch itself off?

I strongly suggest visiting the below forum and report your problem there as they are trying to co-ordinate a response and the more evidence they have, the stronger the case for successful remedial action will be.
