"Horizontal and/or vertical banding is a problem in some LCD screens. This flaw occurs as part of the manufacturing process, and cannot be repaired (short of total replacement of the screen). Banding can vary substantially even among LCD screens of the same make and model. The degree is determined by the manufacturer's quality control procedures."
Defrag = to defragment a computer disk - files get split up in different places - like having your socks in each room of the house and not in pairs! Defrag tidies things up.
Degauss is to remove unwanted magnetism that can distort a regular Cathode Ray Tube screen - many CRT TV sets have a degaussing coil built in around the outside of the picture tube - LCD screens do not need to be degaussed. A CRT with no degaussing coil can sometimes be degaussed by placing it face to face with one that does have the coil - power cycling of the TV with the coil can "fix" the one without a coil.
