Cupboard door hinge - holes bored out?

Hi

The screws on the hinges holding the cupboard door to the panel have over time bore out larger holes, resulting in the screw not having any grip and the door being able to pop off the panel freely. I cannot use thicker screws as the hinge holes can only accommodate this screw size to the current size.

Instead of buying new hinges with thicker screws, what would work well to fill the holes, so i could perhaps re-drill / screw the hinges in?

Thanks

Chippy's solution is so elegant and bears the mark of a master craftsman - bodgers like me try it first with a couple of pieces of broken matchstick. When that fails we resort to the more professional method.

Good luck...

Drill out the screw holes with 6mm drill and fix a short length of 6mm dowel glued with PVA, leave to dry for an hour or so then redrill a pilot hole and refit the hinge.
