How can I repair cassette tape that has been damaged?

I have a cassette tape that was eaten by my tape player. I was able to remove the cassette and tape from the player but the tape is very wrinkled. Does anyone know if the tape can be ironed or straightened out without cutting and splicing. I don't want to loose the data that is in the area that was damaged.

Wind it through manually to the end...then record a copy using a new tape in a dual tape player.

I`ve done it several times with no failures.

If it`s really bad , then a splice+join+record also works
