Dear Frank,
I have just opened up my Toshiba KT-R2 and found that the belt is perished. I've ordered a new one from here: https://www.turntableneedles.com/ for only a couple of dollars plus postage. If you feel confident about this (you'll need jewellers' cross-head screwdrivers) don't forget to clean the perished rubber from the belt path.
