Running slow (PC 70gb drive 512mb ram)?

My PC runs very slow(up to five minutes just to open explorer window!) and had thought it was a virus problem and having run all types of virus programs never find any viruses. However i backed up my documents (only 4gb) and deleted them from the drive and it works at normal speed completing tasks on demand. Now i start to fill up my docs with files again (only 1gb and different to my original files) i notice it slowing down again. What could this be due to?? I only have 12gb occupied in total on the drive. Any help welcome, thanks.

May be there is virus problem with your computer but don;t worry.

There may be also other reason. So First try to delete all temporary files and folders and also %temp%, prefetch, and after performing these try to run disk clean up utility which will increase in system performance.

But make sure that you are using one more heavy application or game on your computer but thereonly 512 MB of RAm I it will be better to you to increase in System Memory (RAM) will also increase system speed and performance.

Here are some suggestions: Remove any programs that you no longer use, restrict the number of programs that start at boot time, defrag your disk drive, add more real memory (RAM), read the umpteen threads about this that have been posted here.
