VGA cable fault, can I repair it?

Hi, my VGA cable, which has a connected at the PC end, but is soldered into the CRT monitor, has developed a problem. The screen shows varying colours depending on the position of the cable. It had a bulge next to the ferrite choke, so I have removed the choke and there is evidently still a number of lumps inside the cable. Presumably one or two of the wired are touching something they shouldn't. Does anyone know how easy it would be to open the cable and sort the problem out? There is nothing else wrong with the monitor.

Make sure the VGA lead from the monitor is tightly secured to VGA output from the desk
Open the desk and press on the VGA card to ensure it's sitting firmly in its socket. If you try this and the VGA cable still isnt working then try another VGA cable because most likely the current one isnt one isnt working.
