help The needles on my knitting machine keep falling out?

hi I have been given a brother KH 830 knitting machine (second hand) I am having problems with it. The carrage is very hard to push and when I do the needles fall out . I have changed the sponge needle bar as the felt was flat but since I have put it back the needles come out when they are in position E can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I am unable to cast on or do any knitting please help

Try replacing the sponge bar with the sponge facing downwards, Make sure all needles are in the non working position{A} in place and hold the needles down with as you slide the bar across.
good luck.
Im also a newbie and found that this was my problem

Yes - you've put the sponge bar back the wrong way.

Take it out again. Push all the needles back in as far as they will go.

Put the sponge bar back in AND AT THE SAME TIME PRESS THE NEEDLES DOWN WITH YOUR HAND AS YOU GO ALONG.

what you did was to put the sponge bar in under the needles when it was supposed to be on top of them.
